"No Viet Cong ever called me n*gger."

Muhammad Ali

Don't know if you saw my posts about my husband having been on Muhammad Ali's security team. He traveled the country with him when they were young men. I didn't know my husband back then, but I have a couple of pictures of them together and a candid of Ali with the boy who became my stepson (after he was grown) and his sister, at Ali's camp. My husband had more pictures, but I don't know what he did with them.

No, I didn't see it.

I'd like to see those. Cassius Clay endeared himself like no other person I can think of. There was something about him that made everyone love him. He was obviously an excellent boxer but there was something else. Something even more important. He was so likeable – once you got passed his self-sarcastic boasting. :)

I wrote this in another section:
"Sometimes you need to learn to be quiet, even when you have a lot to say."

Sorry, off topic.
Boy, do I ever need to learn that! It would free me up and simplify life immensely. The problem is that I have learned never to assume that someone knows something, so I want to make sure they know it by telling them.
Ha! But what the hell do I know??

From all accounts Ali was a kind, humble, thoughtful man, quite different from his public persona. Besides learning this from my husband, my brother said he was at an airport (I think) and helped this woman with something (can't remember what). Turns out it was Ali's wife. When he rejoined his wife, he thanked my brother profusely for helping her. My husband also told me that Muhammad liked to do magic and that he and Elvis Presley were very good friends. Who knew!!
