What are your thoughts on thoughts?

So what is a thought?

Quick answer. One function of the brain.

After reading bobcat's post about thought. I'm thinking my thought about the post is probably best described by bobcat in his post.

They seem to be merely mental representations, or psychological presents that bombard us from all directions, and even when we sleep.
Sometimes they are conscious choices, but many times they aren't. About half of the time our thoughts veer off from what's going on around us.

I know for myself if I have negative thoughts I will become depressed and don't want to do anything. So I try to keep myself positive by concentrating on positive thoughts and actions. I do believe you are what you think. So if you are depressed then you are. I change my negative thoughts to positive by thinking what changes I can make and it gets me away from the negative depressed state. I have always done this because this is what my mother taught me by her examples.

The mind has been described as "Monkey Mind". This is a description of a restless monkey jumping from one branch to another and not finding anywhere to rest. I found it helpful to "still the mind" a couple times a day. I spend about 1/2 hour a couple times a day, not thinking of anything. It was hard at first but over time I became use to it, and even could stop my thoughts during the day if they got "out of control". I feel like it was/is a useful tool to relieve stress.
