Being present, sometimes I am preoccupied with stuff and all my wife wants is me to be present with her.

Don't just listen... *hear.* And when you truly hear what's being said, find a way *together* to resolve whatever it is.
There's a big difference between listening and hearing.

I’m going to echo Kate’s advice. Really LISTEN to your loved ones. Listen and ask questions about what they are talking about.
During the day do little things for them like make them coffee or a drink. Touch them lovingly.

For me that response is exactly what I was thinking. Only thing I'd add is learn early on to say "yes dear" even while asleep.

I watch the old Frasier reruns and oh my God, Frasier is really a terrible shrink, is he not? He LIES often in social situations. What a terrible habit that is for him, but when you have seen those shows so often, if you’re paying attention, you begin to understand why his successful character cannot seem to find love. He’s always lying to get his way. Quite a cad, really, giving out advice on the radio.

I’m sure the writers meant to highlight that irony.
