What Can You Talk About For Hours?

I've never been a big talker. Part of that is from not liking liking the sound of my voice and believing that nothing I had to say was worth listening to. That no doubt comes from my upbringing. I don't remember any real conversations in the house when I was a kid. There was just a lot of arguing and disrespectful treatment, but no rational conversations that I could use to model my communication skills. I was actually afraid to talk in fear of saying something that would set off my mother or cause my sister to make fun of me. So I just clammed up. Then I'd get chastised and insulted for being quiet. I couldn't win no matter what I did!

I think I've become a better conversationalist in my older age, though. Better late than never, I guess. I never realized how serious a disability it can be to not have good communication skills. I mean, I knew it was a problem, but only recently realized how much it hurt my life and my career.
 
I could talk for hours on gardening, recipes, food, and home decor as long as I know the listener is as interested in the subject as me.
I can tell pretty quick by the expression on their face if they can't boil water, prefer oil over latex paint or what type of fertilizer they prefer and I guess they can figure me out when my eyes cross during a discussion on politics or what type of makeup they like.

But SF doesn't have an Art Forum...members sometimes use the Hobbies Forum but Art is a whole community unto itself

Feel free to start a thread there about "actual art" or add to the ones that other members started; Gear's art threads, for example.
 
Thank you. I already have a few threads for art in the Hobbies Forum. One is for my own art.
I just don't look at Art as a Hobby for some reason.

I started my Art thread way back in 2015 but when Matrix changed the software over to XenForo, all of my photos of my art transferred as thumbnail size. I abandoned it but then Radish Rose brought it back to life by enlarging my Geranium in the Window and posting it for me.
So kind and thoughtful of her. She's like that 🤗

I have nothing that I could talk about for hours. However I have a friend who calls and starts talking and I have allowed her to talk for up to 2 hours. She takes a deep breath and starts talking, once in a while she will let me say something. Unfortunately she often tells me the same things that I have heard dozens of times. DH says I am a good listener, sometimes I have no choice in the matter.
 
Before you start talking make sure the recipient is listening. When you are done talking make sure the recipient is there. Not much of a talker and even less interested in listening.
