Same for me.Most of my days are good, bad ones rarely and usually involving losses of people, or injury to family or friends.
Same for me.Most of my days are good, bad ones rarely and usually involving losses of people, or injury to family or friends.
A good day? Today was a good day but I did not go to bed until 6AM and slept until 2PM. Did not wake with a migraine. I remembered to take my phone off the hook on the way to the bedroom. I have some guy stalking me, won't quit calling!! I have never met him but his pursuit is unending. Some guy called Spam Risk, what was his mother thinking? Anyway, he did not get to bother my slumber today!
I did some routine cleaning, unloaded the dish washer, did a load of laundry. Kitchen was too clean and since I felt well I decided to cook not only for dinner but for the weekend. Brisket is in the fridge soaking up dry rub, for a low and slow cook tomorrow. Pot of pinto beans with garlic, onions and good old bacon fat all done. A beautiful casserole of Au gratin potatos with onions (the onions were not allowed when my son was still at home) has been cooked. I will crown with golden glory tomorrow, that would be shredded sharp cheddar. And last but not least is a pan of corn bread baked in an iron skillet that had been heated in the oven with that priceless bacon fat. That is how you get a good crust LOL.
I made a chocolate cake with butter cream frosting a couple of days ago. When I went to pick up that brisket on Tuesday I purchased a 1/2 gallon of Blue Bell Pralines and Cream. In my defense, it was on sale for $3.50. I would normally get the store brands but if you live down this way you take advantage of a sale on Blue Bell!
Gave the big dog a good brushing. He was kind enough to be cooperative and lay down right at my feet in front of the sofa. He did not even fuss when I rolled him over to do the other side. I always feel happy when I get things done. I have so many days that I am like a sloth, slowly making my way through the house pretending to get things done.
I also have a struggle with depression and am on medication that I feel really helps. Do you take anything? Have you discussed it with your your doc? So many suffer with it but don't want to to talk about it or tell the doctor. It is an illness that should be addressed. The trazadone you take for sleep I think was originally made as a treatment for depression and is prescribed off label for sleep.
Please, may I come for dinner? I will bring chocolate cherry cream cheese brownies and homemade ice cream. I will even clean up.![]()
I just finished but will be happy to warm a plate for you!!May I please come for dinner? I will bring chocolate cherry cream cheese brownies and homemade ice cream. I will even clean up.![]()
Thankyou so much.I just finished but will be happy to warm a plate for you!!
If your "check engine" light is coming on, most major auto parts stores....O'Reilly, Auto Zone, etc., offer to hook up a "code checker/reader" for free, which will usually identify the problem. Make a couple of phone calls and find a store/shop that will check the codes. Failure to identify and fix such problems can leave you stranded, and/or result in expensive repairs if not resolved. It shakes when I start it, stalls in stop and go traffic, vibrates violently when I turn on the AC and the check engine light is on constantly.
Yes, I've been on Lexapro since 2005. Works like a charm. I think the addition of Trazadone for sleep is helping even more.A good day? Me too. I traveled a lot. I've had frequent dreams that I am not packed, that I haven't booked a flight or that I am late for a trip. Most of my days are good, bad ones rarely and usually involving losses of people, or injury to family or friends.
I do also, I guess our dreams are partially jumbled up memories. I suppose a lot of us dream of the past and business. My most frequent business dreams are travel related and somehow getting lost or being late or not ready when I do get there. I traveled a lot for business.
I really can't drive it anywhere safely at the present time. Since AAA doesn't send people to fix cars anymore it will probably need to be towed. If your "check engine" light is coming on, most major auto parts stores....O'Reilly, Auto Zone, etc., offer to hook up a "code checker/reader" for free, which will usually identify the problem. If you can find a good local garage, you can have AAA tow it there. I found one by reading the repeated reviews on a local FB group. You could try doing the same on a similar site.I really can't drive it anywhere safely at the present time. Since AAA doesn't send people to fix cars anymore it will probably need to be towed.
This reminds me of a story I read in which a woman found herself slowly becoming invisible. First her toes, then her feet, then her calves....slowly working its way up her body. She was still able to function within her demanding family, but just couldn't see herself....symbolically losing her identity. Its a sobering thought how many women feel this way.I read a short story once about a woman who woke up one morning dead and nobody would let her move on. She kept telling her husband, her kids, her friends, etc., "I'm dead" and they'd say, "Well, let me tell you about the day I'VE had!"
Her husband would say, "Can you pick up the dry cleaning?" She'd say, "I can't....I'm dead, really I'm dead." and he'd reply, "OK, don't forget to make sure the vest is with my blue suit because they forgot it last time."
Her son would say, "You need to take me to the sporting goods store after school 'cause I need new soccer shoes." She'd insist, "I can't, I'm dead" and he'd say, "Oh, and can we stop at McDonald's afterward?"
You get the picture..... For the life of me, I can't remember how it ended but I'm sure she's still picking up the dry cleaning and taking the kids to the mall.
AAA has changed. They leave stranded motorists waiting for hours and then don't show up. I'm a member but won't be anymore after this experience. I already have a local garage but would have to drive through a lot of heavy traffic to get there which I am not willing to do in a car that stalls in stop and go traffic. If you can find a good local garage, you can have AAA tow it there. My many years of experience with AAA is that their fixes are limited to changing flats, providing a jump start, unlocking your car if you're locked out, bringing a couple of gallons of fuel if you've run out of gas, and towing your car up to five miles.I really can't drive it anywhere safely at the present time. Never had anything like that, never saw much value.
They're a no show when it comes to towing. They've changed and don't hire out to local contractors like they used to so this is why motorists are stranded for hours waiting and just receive texts and then AAA doesn't show up anyway. Auto clubs have changed a lot in the past couple of years, AAA is unrecognizable as the reliable company they once were.My many years of experience with AAA is that their fixes are limited to changing flats, providing a jump start, unlocking your car if you're locked out, bringing a couple of gallons of fuel if you've run out of gas, and towing your car up to five miles.
If you have AAA you can have them tow your car to the local garage. According to their website, all plans provide at least four free tows per year, up to seven miles per tow.
I hope you're able to get your car to a mechanic soon, @chic, and that the problem turns out to be minor.
AAA more than paid for itself every year before the 90s, which was when vehicles stopped breaking down with great regularity. (Remember when disabled cars in traffic lanes or the side of the road was a common occurrence? Now it's a rarity.)Never had anything like that, never saw much value.
The few times I have been towed or needed roadside help I just paid for it, pretty sure that over the last 50+ years of driving that has cost me less than the total cost of AAA would have been...
They generally show up within half an hour because there are lots of contracted AAA service providers here. It might be a different situation in small towns or rural areas. They're a no show when it comes to towing. The time I most needed roadside assistance was when I had a flat, in a rental car, at the Yukon River bridge, ~150 miles of dirt road north of Fairbanks, Alaska. The rental car had only one of those little spares, not something you'd want to drive far on. When I called National there was a lot of confusion, they kept asking for the nearest intersection, which was 150 miles of dirt road away. Couldn't seem to find me. After a long discussion they decided I needed to be towed to Fairbanks, at a cost of $1,500 and an 8 hour wait for the truck...They generally show up within half an hour because there are lots of contracted AAA service providers here.
They would have left you there with a bunch of text messages and no one showing up. I've been a member for years but they were great but not anymore. The negative reviews they have been receiving lately is a testament to this sad change. I'm not in a rural area either. The time I most needed roadside assistance was when I had a flat, in a rental car, at the Yukon River bridge, ~150 miles of dirt road north of Fairbanks, Alaska. I was at the little station at the bridge and a guy there offered to sell me a very used tire for $25 and put it on. When I spoke to National they said their policy was not to buy used tires... I paid the $25 out of pocket and had the tow truck canceled. Fortunately I had the foresight to have the rental agent in Fairbanks write on the contract that it was ok to drive the haul road to Prudhoe Bay, so National would have had to pay for the tow. I just didn't want to wait.
Wonder what AAA would have done?
They have the same reputation here too. On the Labour Day weekend the police at a road check were having high speeding cars seized and towed; the tow trucks got paid more to be available for them. There’re lots of bad stories of people who were left with no AAA service because of this. They would have left you there with a bunch of text messages and no one showing up. Around here, the bulk of the TV auto insurance ads seem to be from AAA. I suspect that a major share of their customers premiums go towards paying for these TV commercials. They would have left you there with a bunch of text messages and no one showing up. Very glad to hear the hip replacement surgery went well!A good day is one that starts where I am not stiff and achy when I wake up....and can move pretty decently. So I can get stuff done. I have adapted to the fact I will now always need to keep my walker nearby, and use it for most of my walking. But I can at least park it and move about a bit without issues. No more hip pain, YAY
I have tow coverage on my car insurance, just in case. I also keep jumper cables and fix a flat in the trunk. I recently added a small battery charger Noco Boost plus, about $100 on amazon. I have used it for a dead battery when I left the lights on. Worked great. At home, I have an air compressor, that was my husbands.I really can't drive it anywhere safely at the present time. Since AAA doesn't send people to fix cars anymore it will probably need to be towed.
