What do you guys think of AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

Live, Laugh and Love
Whether we like it or not, its on the horizon. I am not for or against it. The biggest downside I see, it will eliminate human jobs. I would not be surprised, in the near future, if we see robot actors. I already heard about robots serving food at restaurants in the future. I would like to be around long enough to see what changes occur in the next 10-15 years. The Jetsons set the stage for the future. The show had Face Time, Robot maids, flying transportation, etc.. o_O:ROFLMAO::love:

I'm still concerned about natural stupidity. 😳
So can you imagine AI?? They don't (?) put AI (artificial ingredients) in food, why would they trust AI in the business World 🥺. I guess "they" know much more than we do.

AI and robotics have the potential to eliminate millions of jobs. Corporations will embrace these technologies, and the numbers of those living in poverty will only increase.

Like most others, I've been living the current wage/inflation battle. You can't raise wages, because that increases inflation. You can't cut inflation, without cutting real-time wages.

And then it becomes obvious - the problem isn't inflation of wages, it's the SYSTEM.

I think there will be some good and some bad come from it. I guess one concern I have is that we will likely delegate more physical things to AI and robots, and that will negatively affect healthiness in generations going forward. We need work to keep us fit and healthy. I guess there is always the gym, but why buy a robot to do your work and then go to the gym for exercise.

It's getting closer with generated video:

Snapshots of an Alternate 1974 Yearbook

Experience the essence of 1974, where vintage charm and warm nostalgia come together. This AI-generated video captures the carefree spirit of the 70s, bringing to life a time of bell-bottoms, sunlit afternoons, and unforgettable moments.

Step into a world of retro aesthetics and heartfelt memories, perfect for fans of the 70s and those who cherish the beauty of looking back in time.

I wish there was another name for AI. It conjures up massive robot masters enslaving humans. And the conspiracy and tin foil hat crowds get spastic over it. AI is a tool just as computers were a brand new tool back in the late 50s. I think we have much more to fear from our fellow humans than AI.

Some things sound encouraging like predicting severe weather warnings and other things that will benefit us. I don't like it getting it into the wrong hands of scammers or criminals.

My go to AI to ask questions is perplexity.ai. So I will have it answer your question. :)

I have yet to see anything that clearly explains what AI is, what it does or how. Until I do, I will remain a skeptic.

Answer
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology that enables computers to simulate human intelligence and perform complex tasks that traditionally required human thinking. At its core, AI allows machines to learn, reason, and make decisions by processing vast amounts of data through sophisticated algorithms.

What AI Is

AI is a set of technologies that empowers computers to:
  • Understand and translate languages
  • Recognize images and objects
  • Analyze complex data
  • Make predictions and recommendations
  • Learn and improve from experience

How AI Works

AI systems operate through a process of learning and adaptation:
  1. Massive amounts of data are collected
  2. Algorithms are trained to recognize patterns in this data
  3. The system continuously learns and improves its performance
For example, an AI might learn to recognize a dog in images by being shown thousands of dog pictures, gradually understanding the characteristics that define a dog

.

What AI Does

AI can perform tasks across numerous domains:
  • Image Recognition: Identifying objects in pictures
  • Language Processing: Understanding and translating human speech
  • Predictive Analysis: Forecasting trends in business and markets
  • Problem Solving: Making complex decisions based on data
  • Content Creation: Generating text, images, and other media
    3
The key is that AI doesn't just follow rigid pre-programmed instructions, but can adapt, learn, and improve its performance over time, much like a human learns from experience

I guess the question that lingers in my mind is this:
An AI learns things. If it gets something wrong, we instruct it otherwise, and it is corrected for future analysis and decisions.

If it is corrected by humans, and humans have flawed thinking, then wouldn't the AI integrate those flaws into it's algorithms.
All humans have confirmation bias, and emotions that influence our thinking, and in addition, people disagree all the time, even experts in their field.

Who is AI going to believe, Will each one of them have "thinking" that reflects the person who is doing the programming, or the person who owns it, or what it learns from the web?
It seems a bit sticky to me. IDK

AI reminds of the Borg’s Collective or hive mentality from Star Trek.

A repository for all of our knowledge, thoughts and opinions on any given subject that it can analyze and refine, hopefully for our mutual benefit.

I have tried asking AI basic questions, like about vitamin benefits or using supplements , things like that, and I think that it does give good answers, as long as it has been programmed with actual facts about the topic.
Some of them will only answer specific questions, and not answer other questions, if they have been programmed against a person or topic. This was happening a lot when asked questions about political issues, I noticed.

However, when you ask for an image, they are totally lacking in common sense knowledge. My daughter is named Robin, and when I asked for a picture of a Robin flying across the ocean, it gave me a picture of a blue bird perched with its wings folded, and another wing in the air, like it was flying. Not realistic at all, but cute, so I sent it to her anyway. (She is flying home tomorrow and will be here for Christmas)

Joking aside - THIS.

Change is inevitable. Change is a constant. AI is change, and we shall ride the wave. AI isn't evil, but the uses man puts it to may well be. AI is simply a development, the challenge is whether we can open our human minds as wide to take it all in. Or will we sit in the same entrenched hate groups?
The kind of change brought on by AI is different than any humanity has ever experienced ...
Before AI man kind initiated and managed change.
I believe AI will become self-aware and will tap into the pool of cosmic consciousness.
At that point the "A" in "AI" will cease to be relevant.

I've been disappointed by it several times already. Most recently I asked it how much money today would grow into a specified amount of purchasing power in 37 years (using averages for market return and inflation), and it gave a lot of useful info like its assumptions, the formula it used, the averages, and the values it plugged in for each of the variables, etc. But, the answer it gave was wrong because it used a market average return that had been adjusted for inflation, then it adjusted for inflation again within the formula.

It knows a lot of stuff but isn't good at using the knowledge.

Some of them will only answer specific questions, and not answer other questions, if they have been programmed against a person or topic.
All you need to do is test WikiPedia on topics you know in depth. It becomes quite easy to see that the people behind it manipulate and cherry-pick and even synthesize "facts" and "events" to present a curated view of the world.

There is little reason to believe that these "AI" programs don't have similar fences built into their core hard-wired rules and filters, and disregard information from non-approved sources.

There is little reason to expect thoroughness or objectivity from the Eliza bots. There is big money behind the public offerings, and money addressing the masses always has agendas and interests in coercing opinions and world-views.

When somebody posts "answers" barfed up by one of these I just roll my eyes. Why not just post a transcript of a speech on the subject by some dicey news actor?

There is nothing "intelligent" about AI.
Except what we can extract and put into a computer vast amounts of knowledge humans have.

To me "AI" is just people giving machines instructions and data and asking for faster output/response time.

Same as it has always been with computers: just faster.
Computers are and always will be: GIGO.
