What do you guys think of AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

You might be surprised how easy it is. Suno writes its own lyrics and creates its own melody. You just put in a simple prompt about the style or genre of music and what you want the song to be about. The song literally writes itself.
Really! That’s interesting. I think I’ll have to try it one day. Dennis came up with a song he used AI for and it turned out amazing. It actually sounded like a Chicago hit. I loved it.

The most difficult thing in talking about AI is that everyone is talking about different things when they're discussing it. One person is thinking about Alexa and another is talking about a sophisticated logic model. So when someone says that AI does or doesn't do something, you can't tell why. Are they asking the wrong model? Are they using the wrong prompt? Are they expecting something that doesn't work on the model they're using?

But also, things are changing fast. Even this past week, there have been releases in screen sharing where you can show the AI a video of something in real time and talk about it, there are better logic models, there's better search models. Audio is getting better.

If I talked to someone 3 months ago who was complaining about hallucination (the model making a mistake), I'd tell them to use the search feature. If I talked to someone about how robotic it sounded, I'd tell them to use advanced voice mode in ChatGPT.

That said, expectations have to be reasonable too. Some people want to ask a model a question and get it to solve all their problems. AI is getting closer but it's not there yet.

All you need to do is test WikiPedia on topics you know in depth. It becomes quite easy to see that the people behind it manipulate and cherry-pick and even synthesize "facts" and "events" to present a curated view of the world.

There is little reason to believe that these "AI" programs don't have similar fences built into their core hard-wired rules and filters, and disregard information from non-approved sources.

There is little reason to expect thoroughness or objectivity from the Eliza bots. There is big money behind the public offerings, and money addressing the masses always has agendas and interests in coercing opinions and world-views.

When somebody posts "answers" barfed up by one of these I just roll my eyes. Why not just post a transcript of a speech on the subject by some dicey news actor?
Yup

AI and Human Development

Based on the provided search results, AI is currently assisting human development in various ways, including:
  1. Behavioral Change: AI can help individuals adopt healthier behaviors and improve their well-being by analyzing daily habits and providing personalized recommendations for incremental changes.
  2. Healthcare: AI is being used to:
    • Interpret mammograms with 99% accuracy, reducing the need for biopsies.
    • Diagnose diseases, develop new treatments, and improve patient monitoring.
    • Assist in medical research, such as analyzing large datasets and identifying patterns.
  3. Education: AI-powered adaptive learning platforms, virtual assistants, and automated grading can make learning more enjoyable and effective, allowing teachers to focus on strategic work.
  4. Productivity: AI automates repetitive and dangerous tasks, freeing humans to focus on higher-value tasks.
  5. Accessibility: AI can enhance accessibility for people with disabilities by understanding human meanings beyond words and improving communication.
Looking ahead to the future, AI is expected to:
  1. Integrate into daily life: AI will become more ubiquitous, assisting humans in various aspects of life, such as personal assistants, robotic aides, and autonomous vehicles.
  2. Transform industries: AI will drive widespread changes in industries like healthcare, education, and agriculture, leading to increased efficiency, productivity, and innovation.
  3. Enable personalized experiences: AI will power intelligent product recommendations, tailored ads, and personalized learning experiences, improving customer satisfaction and engagement.
  4. Strengthen cybersecurity: AI will help detect and prevent cyber threats, protecting individuals and organizations from data breaches and other security incidents.
  5. Foster sustainable development: AI will aid in precision agriculture, optimizing resource use and reducing environmental impact, and assist in disaster response and recovery efforts.
In the long term, the development of strong AI or artificial general intelligence (AGI) could potentially:
  1. Augment human cognition: AGI could assist humans in solving complex problems, making decisions, and learning new skills, potentially leading to breakthroughs in fields like medicine, energy, and climate change.
  2. Enhance human-machine collaboration: AGI could enable seamless collaboration between humans and machines, leading to new forms of creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.
However, it’s essential to acknowledge the potential challenges and ethical considerations associated with AI development, such as ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness in AI decision-making processes.

The kind of change brought on by AI is different than any humanity has ever experienced ...
Before AI man kind initiated and managed change.
I believe AI will become self-aware and will tap into the pool of cosmic consciousness.
At that point the "A" in "AI" will cease to be relevant.

I think that's an exaggeration. Steam power change the entire world. That change was brought about the mechanics of steam. AI is just another tool. Humanity will make decisions around that.

Of course, if it becomes self-aware (a nebulous term), then perhaps we can see things differently. But think of the differences steam power made, electricity, we allowed it to work its magic, and welcomed it to our lives.

I've been using Bing for awhile now for internet searches. I mostly get what I am looking for instead of who is paying Google the most money.

Today I was working on learning a new computer programming language. I am very impressed on how much ai helped me ... gave it a line of code and asked... what is wrong here, and it interacted and told me, and gave me back a corrected example.

I can't find this menu choice ... and it gave me specific steps to follow.

I have yet to see anything that clearly explains what it is, what it does or how. Until I do, I will remain a skeptic.
I was with my family one day at a Chinese Restaurant. The waitress took our order and said it wouldn't be long. After about 20 minutes we noticed a small robot which looked like something out of Star Wars coming towards us. It was our order, and the robot made sounds like "Hello" and "take your order". All the dishes, we had to put on the table ourselves, and then it moved away. Not too happy about it as it spoils the connection between Waiter and Customer.

Did you leave it a tip?

Personally, I can do without the interaction between waiter and customer. Just bring me my food and leave me alone.

It would be so cool if they gave it a Mae West vibe.

Like any powerful invention, AI has enormous potential for good, or bad. It is up to the programmers who use it. Right now it reminds me of the wild, wild west...in need of some Marshalls to monitor their products. Laws will be made, and they will be broken. I am hoping that no tragedy/ies lie ahead, but I think there are going to be some big problems with it. It is a new frontier, so I am watching it develop as closely as possible.

It's getting closer with generated video:

Snapshots of an Alternate 1974 Yearbook
That was just horrible. Sincerely, someone who graduated high school in 1976. Was this perhaps done by a zoomer with no clue what the 70s actually looked like? And the people didn't even look real.

I wish there was another name for AI. It conjures up massive robot masters enslaving humans. And the conspiracy and tin foil hat crowds get spastic over it. AI is a tool just as computers were a brand new tool back in the late 50s. I think we have much more to fear from our fellow humans than AI.
Not when you consider that science is, once again, going too far. They are programming androids with sentience and emotion and able to repair themselves and build new ones too. No way can that be a good thing. Especially in something logic based. Their own logical recourse would be to rid themselves of their human overlords, which said idiots have given the capability of doing. We are bringing about our own extinction.

Watch a play through of Detroit Become Human. We're working on making that happen. (I recommend PewDiePie's but then I'm partial. He gave me one of his rare likes for my comment on his.)

AI reminds of the Borg’s Collective or hive mentality from Star Trek.

A repository for all of our knowledge, thoughts and opinions on any given subject that it can analyze and refine, hopefully for our mutual benefit.
