What do you guys think of AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

Depends on what you mean by intelligence, but OpenAI's new o3 model (not yet released) is supposed to have an IQ of 157 which is higher than the average of 100. It places 2727 in competitive programmers in the world, higher than most programmers at OpenAI.

OpenAI o3 Model Is a Message From the Future: Update All You Think You Know About AI
I have little doubt that AI can reason with the best of us, on most any subject, which is something that most all humans can not do. This includes the sciences, bibliographies, history ,philosophies, etc. It is capable in most languages and can translate within milliseconds. All of this is available now.

To some, even more secretive datasets are being used. They could have a profit at any cost variable for it's basic logic. This would be bad for our world. There is going to be many new laws and many compromises with our old values of what intellectual property really is, and how it should not be a commodity. :)

I feel pretty confused about our future. It is hard to see anything very clearly. The whole getting deceased thig is a mystery. Will it be slow? painful? long? short? painless? when? how? It all is a mystery. I have a chance to speed up the process with an aneurism in my lower aorta. Soon I will have to decide I getting a stent. Right now I would say no, I will take the rather quick, and painful death, knowing now what it will be like. Not knowing such an important part of a person's life ( their own death ) is kind of weird and "wrong". :)
It depends on your illness l guess. Three years ago l thought l would die soon and it didn't bother me. My brother got all agitated and asked me if l planned to just die in bed. l answered yeah, l was mad at myself for not taking better care of myself so l deserved it. You don't deserve it and it would break my heart as well as many others so don't do it! l changed my mind about it for myself.

Don't get the stent! I agree. :) I know what you are saying. It does sound similar to my feelings about it. I will reconsider, and may make an appointment. More doctoring is not what I want for my future, but it is starting to look like they are going to be even more involved. That's what I mean. You think it is worth it now having reconsidered. I have to rearrange some priorities.

There has been talk of building a kill switch for run away AI. They have even thought of the idea that AI will be one step ahead of anyone or anything that threatens it's existence.

That's what worries me the most in that for example how far will emotions and self awareness, among other human attributes be developed before these artificial AI people become just another group without any distinctive rights whatsoever.
I understand that but what worries me more is since they are at the bottom programmed to be logical, well, logically, they'd want to get rid of us illogical humans.

AI can be programmed with IF-THEN scenarios, but that is not thinking. The advances that the programmers are attributing to AI are just not so.

You seem very knowledgeable about AI. The things you are describing sound insane, suicidal to me.
Programming things to be powerful enough to destroy us is indeed insane and suicidal but call the scientists that go too far that. Not me just because I think of what could go wrong.

That said, you do have a point about our sheer numbers. However, what about the humans that are the casualities of the attempt? They should matter more than machines.

Also will sheer numbers continue. When there's a Rosie the Robot maid in every household that 'll change. Robot vacuums, mops and lawn mowers are now common place. Those are benign and not a danger but once androids are as common place as those ares, when they are as common as cars, we could have a problem.

I hear you. I have one of those too but mine has remained at 4.8 for years and has to be 5 to burst. I have days when I say grow already. LIke you, I'm not afraid of death aka being dead but the dying process is terrifying. How slow and painful will it be? I've been living with debilitating pain for 30 GD years. Enough already.

And, no, that is not the only health condition wherein I have a coin toss of I could drop dead tomorrow or live another 30 years. If I had a dollar for every time the GD doctors have buried me - well, it'd pay for a very nice funeral anyway. Not that that would matter to me but it would my loved ones.

Well, yes. Actually. You really trust the AI to not do that to all humans? I don't.

Actually AI will get train Ms. Jen O'Cyde to be far more efficient than those rather evil human beings were.

Don't get me started because I'll get slapped on the wrists (again) for getting too political. Just think about the possible consequences. And recent events designed to panic people... one that affected the entire world and millions died of that was mapped out by Bill Gates ahead of time.... other things too. Ms.. Jen O'Cyde is already hard at work.

Much, much more efficiently than that group was.

Speculating about how the "deep state" is using AI is wide open. I have read many a very scary tale about how they plan on using it, and what for. It don't look good for the masses. This is conspiracy theory only. To prove that their plans are real takes more than we can come up with. Like most all very important things we should be able to know, we are kept in the dark. It is likely we will very little say about how AI develops, and that it too will be arranged by the billionaires.

Most ideas about AI by ordinary people including posts herein, reflect a lack of understanding with the subject as a result of technical ignorance tending to think of AI in terms of classic computer programming which it is not or some primitive inane tech toy they bought that talks back to them. Note a good starting point would be to read Ray Kurzweil's 2006 "The Singularity is Near" that explains how brain neocortexes are 6-layer neural plasticity connected structures repeated as nearly identical cortical columns millions of times. We become what we do and experience through brain connectivity changes to those cortical columns. And "Garbage In Garbage Out" does apply.

IMO Singularity level AI will only occur after AI and neural science changes from current animal brain ideas that treat such like electronic circuits to one of neochord standing wave oscillation electromagnetic fields within organic neural impedance containers.

The below is a good Google search summary:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is similar to the human brain in several ways, including:

Neural networks
AI's neural networks are inspired by the brain's interconnected neurons, which communicate with electrical and chemical signals. Neural networks are made up of artificial neurons, which are connected to each other in layers. The strength of these connections can change, similar to how the brain's neurons change strength through plasticity.

Learning from experience
AI's neural networks learn from experience, similar to how the brain does. For example, if an AI network makes a mistake, the connections between its units are adjusted so it can improve its performance next time.

Associative learning
AI models can learn to make associations between concepts, similar to how the human brain forms memories.

Brain organoids
Brain organoids are lumps of nerve cells that can be used to perform tasks like speech recognition.

However, AI still has some limitations compared to the human brain. For example, AI algorithms are still relatively unsophisticated compared to the brain's inner workings. Some say that AI may never acquire a human form of consciousness, but it could become conscious in ways that are incomprehensible to us.

The only problem with emotions is not ignoring them when one should.
If our Government was an AI it could be programmed to be as unbiased as possible. Helping with economics, transportation, food distribution, universal basic income, education, etc, could be an enormously good way to use it. I think that it is already being asked important questions now, and what it is saying is being considered. I know that is the case with our military activity. IMO that is the tip of the iceberg.

With AI answer with references....

I just had an inquiry if I am open to WFH to create positive feedback on products using AI. "Supporting our vendors and products". Decline politely or honestly is the question.

They don't need to be more intelligent to take over; just as intelligent.

Genius is said to be the mixing of disciplines, like maybe 'how can knowledge of the building of bridges help in brain surgery?' It seems to me that the programmer just needs to apply the 1-2-3 procedure of bridge building to the 1-2-3 procedure of brain surgery. I mean, compare ALL disciplines to each and every discipline. These sorts of comparisons are the meat of AI --what they do best.
