What do you think about the foods you eat?

The closer it tastes to my mom's cooking, the better I like it. Also I'm sure that if I eat the kinds of food I ate when I was a kid, I'll stay pretty healthy. The only health problems I have are directly related to a serious accident I had about 30 years ago, and the food I grew up on is probably why I even survived it.

I eat a lot of squash, just finished some. Not as free range as yours, but the farmer next door gives us gleaning privileges. After he is done picking in the fall he lets us take what we want from his field, its always enough for a good squash winter.
For me, your squash beats @Silent Rose 's avocados by a long-shot. ;)

(i do not like avocados)

I use it a lot, maybe picked it up from the Mormons, they used to have a group for young singles called "M Men and Gleaners". The first time I lived in Utah, long ago, I got invited and went once or twice.

I like words too, but am no expert, not something engineers cover in school, LOL.

I like the free range vegetable thing too. Will have to start using it!
Definitely! It's a thing now. Free Range Veggies. ;)

Yeah, they're pricey and it's hard to tell sometimes when they are under/over/or just right. Geeze, they should be called Goldilocks Fruits.
To ripen avocados: place in a brown paper bag w/a piece of apple (i use granny smith) and place it on top of the fridge.
Check after a couple of days.

I've got 5 up there now. Used one today.

Oh, and you're welcome. :)

Guess there can be too much of a good thing.
Does anyone else remember that scene from Looney Tunes wherein Yosemite Sam was lost on a deserted island and had nothing but coconuts? He'd made himself a meal of coconut with coconut milk to drink and something else coconut, I think. -- I miss those guys, the original Looneys.

Anyway, I feel you Jules; I get tired of eating the same 10ish things all the fracking time as well. (Avocado toast still rocks, though.) ;)

Thanks for the tip, @dobielvr! :)
Did you know that, should they all ripen before you can eat them, you can mash them into guacamole and freeze? Let no avocado be left behind!

Living where we do that has major grocery stores American, Latin & Asian plus having a lot of time to try different recipes variety is great. I almost feel like a thief. The other day I was lucky enough to be there to get in on a flash sale at a Latin market. 16 to 20 shrimp to a lb. I bought 5lbs. @ $4.69 a lb.

Everything from shrimp scampi to shrimp on the Barbie in my future.

And yes live to eat is my choice.

"foodie" ? Had to look that up in slang dictionary. No, never been one. Ignorant food preparation guy. Rarely visit restaurants. Fast food only on road trips. Eat food from supermarkets. Rarely red meat or greasy foods, low chicken, fish, mostly vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, rice, lots of dairy. Lifelong sugar habit. Eat small portions.

Yesterday, no breakfast, bought a delicious small container of cheese broccoli soup, main meal of day with a cinnamon brown sugar pop tart and milk for dinner. That was all. Today will have a half bowl of raisin bran breakfast, and a $6 tuna fish sandwich for lunch.

After 3 months, the 5 pound block of peanut butter fudge I bought on Amazon still has maybe 20 ounces left. Lately, one of those Hostess orange cream cupcakes a few times each week.

I focus on fresh veggies and fruit; I like experimenting with unfamiliar foods or new combinations ( a friend fixed brussel sprouts by baking seasoned with multi-colored carrots and about 5 min before done dizzling witj maple syrup…. Absolutely delicious. I went back for thirds and I’m not a fan off Brussel sprouts )

I don’t eat much meat

dark chocolate (in moderation) is my go-to sweet

I think you could summarize my philosophy about food thus: eats to live, don’t live to eat

I think you're right, but I'd totally do the opposite if I could get away with it. "Eat, Drink and Be Merry!" But, you know, it's more like steamed root veggies, hummus, almond milk, (which is actually pretty good). LOL :)

How about ‘free range’ butternut squash? We had a volunteer plant come up last summer and, by the time we figured out what it was, it had taken over a large section of our yard and was putting on blooms. Just could not bring myself to pull up the plant.

Below is a picture of what we harvested. Butternut squash is one of the foods I am tired of eating!

Reminds me of the time we had a similar crop of these. I ended up putting them in the basement and giving to friends. Not enough room in fridge. We ate squash cake/bread for months. I got tired of it, too.

I go through my phases, especially if I want to lose a few pounds. I don't eat the same foods all the time. Sometimes I'm into fruits and veggies (in that phase now) with chicken or salmon or eggs. I used to eat 3 meals a day when younger because I was very active and athletic, but now eat only 2 meals a day. Since last year, I eat a late breakfast (intermittent fasting of 14 hrs) and dinner. A snack between meals or after dinner once in awhile. My weaknesses are chocolate and ice cream. When I visit my mom in Florida, all bets are off. I always gain 5 pounds there, no matter what. She loves to cook and her meals are delicious.
