What do you think is a "rip off"?

I did and the agent said they are not offering any discounts at this time, even for seniors.
My suggestion is to then cancel your subscription. You may have to suffer along for a few months, but there is always a follow up letter offering a discount to get you back. We canceled cable TV while retraining internet and phone service. After three months we were offered TV service at half of what we were paying for 12 months. We didn't take it because we came to like the many more channels found on our digital antenna that we hadn't known about before. We've almost 100 digital antenna channels we can get and they are much better than cable ever was.

In the Uk you only have to tell a supplier that you have a better offer from another company, to get a discount on what you're already paying.. and equally as someone else said.. if you move companies then you always get a big discount as new customer for the first year...

In my location, if you say that they will ask you to prove it. Since there are only three service providers in my southern California city (all colluding with one another) no one is going to offer anything that undercuts the others. Your bluff will be called. That would be embarrassing.

I dumped cable years ago, cancelled my land line, and bought a cell phone.

Bought a Roku stick for 50.00, plugged it into the back of my TV and enjoy many free or free with ads, channels, especially YouTube. I don't miss mainstream TV at all, I'd rather watch YT comedy, documentaries, history and so much more.

I don't really like movies all that much, but there are a few on YT that I've liked. I do pay 14.00 per month for Amazon Prime for movies, FreeVee and shipping for many items, especially dog food and some gifts.

Peacock is another streaming source. I found a promotion for 20.00 for one year, but sub sequentially, 60.00 per year after that. Cancel anytime. I canceled today and have until end of Nov. to watch some comedy shows they feature. One year for 20.00 isn't bad.

My Internet used to cost me nothing because when I was working, my company paid for it because I had to use it for work. After that, I paid 68.00 per month. ( 40.00 for phone is separate.) Then the Gov't gave us free Internet if you were below a certain income, which I am. For a few years I enjoyed free Internet. Now, they're talking about ending that program.

I will look into lowering my cell phone charges, I don't use it all that much.

We have somewhere around 28 Newest Naval Combat ships that are considered Worthless.
I am sure the Crews feel bad, knowing they are total Loosers.
Sure our elected officials had something to do with the Stupid. its what they do best!

A "rip off" can refer to many different things, but generally, it means being overcharged or deceived in a transaction or service. It can be anything from being charged an exorbitant price for a product or service that's of poor quality, to being misled about what you're paying for.

For example, let's say you go to a restaurant, and the menu says that a dish costs $15. You order it, but when the bill comes, it turns out the price was actually $20. That would be a "rip off" because you were charged more than the advertised price.

Or, imagine you go to a mechanic for an oil change, and they tell you that you need a whole new engine. You get a second opinion, and it turns out your engine is fine. That would be a "rip off" because the mechanic was trying to upsell you on services that you didn't need.

Ultimately, a "rip off" is something that leaves you feeling cheated or deceived in some way, and it's always important to be vigilant and do your research to avoid being taken advantage of.

I agree with you, and you echo the complaint of many. But, I have a question for you so you can speak for millions - what is the answer to the problem that would satisfy everyone, not just you?
There isn't an answer that would satisfy everyone, but two answers come to mind and one is a lot more satisfying than the other.

1) There's no reason a person who applies for citizenship should be forced to wait 12 to 15 years. There are excuses, but no actual reason. The INS needs more processors and interviewers (it'd be great if they had caseworkers as well), and the process needs to be streamlined by omitting duplicate steps.

2) It is illegal to hire undocumented workers, but farmers, construction companies, and wealthy people who want cheap nannies and housekeepers do it all the time, and some small businesses do, too. It's a federal offense punishable by 6 months in jail per undocumented person hired, plus fines and probation...12mo, I think. Every offender should be charged and if convicted, every month served, every fine paid, and no deals offered.

The Donald as an independent hired them to work. Of course there are advantages. why do you think they are everywhere welcome. Advantages., I wish these hard working well!

I can't live without TV. I admit it! 😭
I see that you live in California as I do. Instead of cable TV you might try antenna TV. We've over 100 channels which includes 11 public education channels that have no adverts and it is all free via antenna. And, there is a great deal of variety among the channels we get.
