There isn't an answer that would satisfy everyone, but two answers come to mind and one is a lot more satisfying than the other.
1) There's no reason a person who applies for citizenship should be forced to wait 12 to 15 years. There are excuses, but no actual reason. The INS needs more processors and interviewers (it'd be great if they had caseworkers as well), and the process needs to be streamlined by omitting duplicate steps.
2) It is illegal to hire undocumented workers, but farmers, construction companies, and wealthy people who want cheap nannies and housekeepers do it all the time, and some small businesses do, too. It's a federal offense punishable by 6 months in jail per undocumented person hired, plus fines and probation...12mo, I think. Every offender should be charged and if convicted, every month served, every fine paid, and no deals offered.
