What do you think is the purpose of your life

I don’t think we have any great purpose in life, apart from procreation of the species, just one pleb among many, struggling to survive.

No one has mentioned that many of the people our age look back over the years and wonder...after reaching their goals and fulfilling many accomplishments, and after becoming the best of what they set out to be...they wonder why there still a feeling of emptiness. They wonder why there's a void. That void is where the meaning of life can be found and can be filled.

Here's a link to what I have found to be the best answer I've ever read answering the purpose or meaning of life. It offers an answer to this void and emptiness many feel at our age: If you're interested, click on this link. It's safe...

Many members have discussed whether there are past lives or not...but whether there are or aren't has nothing to do with the purpose of life.

I've read most of the responses to what we all think is the purpose of life and find them all thoughtful and interesting but no one has mentioned that many of the people our age look back over the years and wonder, after reaching their goals and fulfilling many accomplishments, and after becoming the best of what they set out to be...why is there still a feeling of emptiness? Why is there a void? Is the purpose of life in there?

The reason some people feel unfulfilled although they may seem to have it all… is because they rely on external things to make them happy. Everything outside yourself can help you get better in life, but they are not the means to your happiness.

Happiness is an inside job, work from the inside out, and if all of a sudden, every material thing is taken away, you will still be happy. A wonderful book to have and to read over and over again is Viktor Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meanings.”

I have been a good, caring wife, mother, teacher, grandmother. I have made a difference in a few lives, sometimes just by caring, and on a very few occasions, with money. My teaching career encompassed more than reading and math. I cared about the whole student, head and heart, and they knew it. My family loves me. If that isn’t “the meaning of life,” I don’t know what is.

My mother always told me I should be a teacher. Although I didn't get a degree that allowed me to teach in school, people tell me that I've taught and "hipped them" to many important things in life. I did teach music and music theory for awhile though when I was in my 20's and 30's. I also feel I'm here to be a strong support system for my friends and family, to make people laugh, to add beautiful, soothing music to their lives and brighten their days any way I can.

Those are all admirable good works and certainly matter in the big picture, but I think there's more to the big picture. I think good works are a result of who we are and what we should all do but not the meaning of all of life. But I know...that's me. And I know I'm in the minority. Thank you for tolerating my faith-based participation

I don't know the purpose of life, but the longer I live the more disenchanted with life I get, and the less I care to be here.

For 99% of us, we're not here long enough to make any difference or change, and we're not here long enough to be able to fully enjoy what life has to offer, so for me it's a stagnant existence to nowhere.

Life is nothing more than a struggle that's built on work and toil for a majority, and in the end our efforts amount to diddly-squat (in the big scheme of things), yet a majority strive for more, and some even kill themselves in their quest to work more, want more, and to do more, which escapes me, because at the end of ones life our efforts reward us with a big fat nothing, and over the course of our lives everything we work so hard for, we never truly own, and we can't take any of it with us, so what's with all of the hard work and dedication? Who exactly are we trying to please or impress?

Two to three generations after we're gone, no one will know or remember who we were, nor will anyone talk about us.

@Chet had it the closest. The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness.
The life on this Earth is necessary for you to be the wonderful soul you will become.
The lives you experience in the future will be what you now consider incredible.
In each life, you have the opportunity to grow closer to God, to develop your thought,
develop your mind and soul to it's full potential and achieve more love and greater happiness.

Sometimes this is difficult to understand because Earth is a lowly world.
Sometimes all we can do is make our own lives as wonderful as possible.
Live the life you want to live. be free. All the joy, the music, the dance, is all within your soul.
Be your soul.
The soul will always be alive.
There is no death of the soul.
The soul will survive births and deaths, all to bring you closer to God.

Oh goodness. I’d hate to feel this grim about life.
Not to say I haven’t but only when I’ve been in a major depression.

I don’t have the answer to life’s purpose in general but I would at least ‘hope’ that finding happiness would be one of them and finding happiness and joy is different for everyone.

I’m so sorry you have such a miserable outlook on life and truly hope it changes soon. This is a very sad view of existence.

I finally found my porpoise in life!

I'm still searching for purpose. If it was to help others
I've not been much help. If for some goal I should have
achieved in a past life, I have lost focus and no longer
seeking. I've been unable to find purpose unless it is to
create a like image and even then I have failed. Those
creations. are not like me. I'm ugly as home made soap.
So you tell me.

Finding happiness in life depends to a large degree on the fickle finger of fate - placing your birth into a kind, financially secure family able to give you the best start in life. Then it's up to us, not to **** it up.

I love that you used the word HOPE. Remember that childhood song? "Have faith, hope, and charity. That's the way to live successfully. Don't worry 'bout tomorrow. Just be real good today. The Lord is right beside you to guide you all the way"...btw "charity" in this song means "love"

🍃🍂

Earth was created nearly 4.6 billion years ago. Life started approximately 3.8 billion years ago, that’s around 800 million years after the creation of earth. Looking for the meaning of life is like looking for a needle in a monumental haystack!

Humans have been created for a rather special purpose, focusing on consciousness, awareness, intelligence and knowledge. To even get near to finding a meaning to life is to understand the “meaning” is in the journey itself, the quest, being a forever seeker…and even after all that, we may never know the meaning of life.

Perhaps we are not meant to know and anyone who thinks reading a book can provide an answer is living life with blinkers on. Philosophers and laymen alike have been trying for centuries to come up with an answer…and have not done so.

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about the “meaning of life” and “the purpose of life.” Purposes are goals, and goals change all the time. Events occur, we meet new people, we have lots of experiences, we form new ideas…we are going through the human condition, we are constantly in a state of flux and so our purpose in life changes.

If a person’s purpose does not change, I would say that person is stuck in spiritual stagnation and the most productive way to alleviate that stagnation is to work from the inside…by that I mean, spend quality time in meditation… make cancellations on the negatives in your life…forgive…love your neighbour regardless of colour or creed.

Personally, I am still working on it and still searching…we are all a work in progress 🍃🍂
