What do you think of Medicare Advantage ads?

Personally, I find they are extremely misleading. They always start out with "0" cost plans. But then it's plans where two guys stand outside your door and shovel money at you- "free" trips to the Dr., grocery money, home health workers pharmacy credits, etc. But somehow, they never get around to giving the price.
That's my two cents.

Because I don't think you have the option of postponing Medicare just because you are employed. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I can't recall what they are.
 

I don’t watch television, so I do not actually see any of those kinds of ads. However, we always get them in the mail during the open enrollment season in the fall.
I throw them all in the trash.

We have a wonderful healthcare agent that we have had for almost 10 years now. He gets the new information about the upcoming plans for the next year sometime during the late summer or early fall, so he has time to read though all of them before open enrollment starts.
If he thinks that there is a better plan than the one that we have (for our personal needs), then we have an appointment with him and he goes over the plan options so we can make a decision about whether to keep our same plan or make a change. I completely recommend having an agent for medicare plans, as opposed to trying to figure it out yourself , or just staying with the same company every year.
 
I would prefer no commercials and some sort of government sponsored information/clearing house about the companies that are approved to do business business in my area and the benefits of their plans above and beyond basic Medicare/Medicaid.

I use a zero premium Medicare Advantage plan and pay close attention to the drug formulary for the plan and the maximum annual out of pocket.

If my prescriptions are covered and if I can handle the potential hit from a major hospitalization or medical procedure, I’m good.
 
I'll be glad when this Friday rolls around and the Medicare enrolment season ends. Between these endless TV ads and the daily "spam" phone calls, it will be almost refreshing to get back to the normal commercials. Occasionally, I answer the phone when one of these Medicare calls comes, and invariably the caller can barely speak English. I wonder how many people get scammed when they decide to talk to one of these crooks. I often re-dial the number shown on my caller ID, and the phone number they are using is not in service. If they are scamming a phone number, just image the BS they are trying to sell.

I haven't read any responses. I think they are INSANE!!! I feel like a toy when they start playing with me. There is so many twists and turns, and ups, and downs, and turns...I can read and concentrate on one or two, and then they are history for comparison. It has become such a HUGE market too. I get mail two times a week for a new one. The "dying people" market. We are it. Big Pharma too. Health care is going to be a nightmare soon. Glad I still have the internet. :)
 
when I was approaching Medicare age, my mail box was sometimes stuffed to the gills with stuff for every imaginable insurance provider. it might as well have been in Chinese to me. as I approached the deadline for making a decision, I almost just shut my eyes and pointed to one.

one year when overwhelmed by commercials implying/inferring that I was missing out on big $$$ savings, I asked my provider a simple question. I asked for a yes or no... would I qualify for any of the fantastical stuff those ads claimed I could get? the answer was no... surprise.

now I call and ask if there's anything new that would get me more beanies for less money... I have about a week left to do that.

Yeah, Dec. 7th- End of Medicare enrollment season. YEAH!!!!!
 
Based on their ad, I was all set to choose a great sounding plan, then discovered at the last minute that the hospital I use was not in their network. Be careful.
