What does "home" mean for you?

It has been said that a house is not a home, and home is where the heart is.
When you think of home, what comes to mind?
Is it where you live now, or where you grew up and your old neighborhood (Familiarity), or where you have the most memories, or a sense of belonging?
Is it where you feel most safe (Your sanctuary), or have connections, or feel most comfortable, accepted, and at peace?
Is it sights, sounds, smells, or just wherever family is?
What is "Home, Sweet, Home?
 

Interesting question. I've moved so many times in my life, "home" is where I'm currently parked. I have no attachment to where I grew up, though I did -- on a lark on a very short visit to the area a few years ago -- stop by to see the house where I grew up. The current owners were very accommodating and while I did little other than set foot in the door, it was interesting to see what the owners had done with it.

Other than that, I'm fine wherever I'm housed.
 
For me, home is never having left the neighborhood where I grew up,special place
I'm the only member of my family who stayed here in Buffalo due to my job working at local hospital for 27 yrs.
At the end of May when I moved here to Canterbury Woods that feeling didn't changed,I'm now a block away from my childhood home,10 min walk to my friends at the apt building I lived at for 36yrs
 
Home is where Iā€™m currently at. Itā€™s where all my stuff is. Where I grew up was my parents home. Itā€™s where I partied when I really shouldnā€™t have. Home IS where my heart is. Itā€™s where I do all the things I enjoy. Itā€™s where I lay my head down each night and go to sleep.

Home is where my significant other is. Itā€™s where we plan and cook our meals during the day. Home is where our pets are. Home is where we look after each other. Home is where we do all our hobbies. Itā€™s where we come back to after a long walk or bike ride. Home is where we can be who we really are without any pretenses.

Only it was 'what does a cabin mean to you?'

It was when we lived at our mountain cabin

My answer seemes to cover both queries;




For me

It's more than even Kinkaid could replicate.
It's warmer than the warmest of wood stoves.
It has more charisma thanthe grandest of orators,
more appeal than the most opulent edifice built.

Yet it's simpler than the simplest of abodes.
...all the while doing its modest magic

Turning a mason jar to a drinking glass,
a tuna can to an ash tray,
a wooden apple box to a cabinet,
a burlap bag to a slip cover,
favorite old clothes to attire of choice,
a stranger to an acquaintance,
an acquaintance to a friend,
a wife to a mistress,

a life....to living.


And for me,

it's now home.
