What Does It Mean to You!

To me it means - It’s all up to you!
I hear this often whenever I ask my husband questions about what we are going to do, where we are going to go, what we are going to eat etc., It usually means that he doesn’t want to make any of the decisions and would rather that I did.

He says the reasoning is that if anything goes wrong that I can’t blame him.
Hes no dummy.

To me it means, I've done everything I can to help and now it is up to you to decide what you are going to do or how you are going to handle the situation.
Ok, fine.

Hahaha.

‘It’s all up to you’, I would take to mean, the other person is willing to go along with whatever you decide

It means that the other person doesn't want to take responsibility....they are putting the onus on you. Then, when things go wrong, they won't be to blame.

It does sound to me as something negative to say to someone else, as in I had my say and you can like it or not and I really no longer care about whatever it is, and now it's all up to you as to the outcome. I don't see it as a positive thing to say.

Very strange take on that phrase, as I see it, but we all have our differences. The phrase you describe would be, "You can take it, or leave it," if I go by your negative spin.

EX: "You can have a good time at that party, or you can go and be miserable. It's all up to you." (Positive spin, sort of.)

EX: "My price is $200, firm. You can take it, or leave it!" (Negative spin, sort of.)

Maybe because I believe that decisions should be a consensus between individuals and to say it's all up to you can that mean that consensus has gone down the drain and so one of two people are accepting what the other wants even if not happily. One can look at it in many ways, so of course interpretations will vary.

I agree.

Same with managing an illness there is only so much a doctor, therapist, nutritionist, etc... can do. At some point, it's all up to you to do the hard work/make the changes in your life to get better or manage your situation.
