Just returned from Costco. They had one employee wiping down the cart handles as customers lined up to have this done. We passed on it. It didn't make sense, as we were handling goods that others had also handled. Came home, washed our hands (as we always have done). Saw several people wearing face masks.
I wouldn't wear a face mask unless I had the virus... the experts say that it's better not to wear them unless you're sharing a house with someone who is ill, or you're ill yourself... but in the supermarket I would wear latex gloves..
