What exercise have you done today?

2 mile walk on the nature trail. It's really great to be back walking the trail again. Last year I came down with heel bursitis and it got to the point where it was too painful to do any extended walking. So I bought a used spin bike and started doing that. I used the spin bike from the end of February till October 1st when my heel was finally recovered enough to start walking at the trail again. I have not been on the spin bike since then and I don't miss it. It's a miserable way to get exercise IMO. But I'll keep it just in case I get another injury that prevents me for walking.

I tell you waht I did to day..I stood on one leg... for a period of time, without falling over, and then on the other for as long as I could..

Balancing on one leg continuously for more than 40 seconds is another indicator of longevity. It is said to be a key sign of strength and mobility among 18 to 39-year-olds, according to the NHS.

Those aged 18 to 39 should manage 43 seconds, the NHS says, and 40 seconds if you're aged between 40 and 49.

For 50 to 59-year-olds, the figure stands at 37 seconds and 30 for 60 to 69-year-olds.

By 70 to 79, this drops to between 18 and 19 seconds and a little over five seconds if you're over 80.

According to one 2022 observational study, being unable to stand on one leg for 10 seconds in mid to later life is linked to a near doubling in the risk of death from any cause within the next 10 years.

Writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers who carried out the study over 12 years in Brazil said the test 'provides rapid and objective feedback for the patient and health professionals regarding static balance'.

I managed the same length of time as an 18 year old,..in fact a little longer at 50 seconds.. ...go me...(y)(y)

I balanced on my right leg just long enough for my left one to hit the ground about 1 and a half seconds.
Uh oh. I've been walking with a cane for about 15 years now and I imagine that might have something to do with it, but gee, I was standing on my good leg.

it would all come with a little practice tho'...I've got AO in my knees.. and I believe it's starting in my ankles now.. but i did it.. without holding on, after the second try...:D

Yesterday - 30 Mins. on the treadmill with 1lb weights and two dog walks. I didn't do toning yesterday; wasn't up for it for whatever reason. Today I'm hoping to do a circuit trainer or the treadmill and toning. I need to work some yoga in at some point, as well.

Yesterday I did the treadmill with 1lb weights, a small amount of toning and a dog walk. - I think I will, going forward, just post weekly. Anyway, still exercising, so, yay!

This afternoon I went to the park on a grey gloomy drizzly day. I found a quiet spot and did an hour and a half of Tai-Chi practice. Wonderfull - recharged and chilled out ☯️
For those interested I worked on the first 18 part Shibashi Tai-Chi Qigong set, The 37 movement Cheng Man Ching form and the Baduanjin exercises (8 Brocades).

Yes I did!
But the TV is my DHs space so I had to think up a plan to rectify that situation for my space.

It is now actually my NEW YEAR resolution, MaidMarian!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

My plan (Christmas present for myself via DH):
-Buy a med size smart TV from Costco, for my space;
-Call a glass company come mirror one wall in my space. (I do better with my form when I can see me mimic the instructor).
-Begin with at least 1 of the 20-30 min sessions every other day for about a month, if I can manage that; adjust as needed.
-Goal is to do a the whole hour session by the time my older sister visits in late Feb/Mar!!

I sent HER the video link, too and she LOVES it too!! So she and I have made a goal that when we get together we will dance it together!!

Again: THANK YOU SO MUCH! Am so happy you found what I was searching for: a new routine.
I’m so happy that you enjoyed it! I’ve been doing it since Covid hit. I used to take Zumba classes 3x weekly at the Senior Center and I loved it. I found Zdancer Liz on YouTube and continued at home. I do it 5 times weekly and on the weekends I do Yoga. I will post the Yoga Video that I did today. I also took Yoga at the Senior Center 3 times weekly. During warmer weather, I walk 2-5 miles daily instead of Zumba in a local State Park. I really enjoy the outdoors.
I think your idea about the mirror is a really good one! Having your own space for this and your own TV will make a big difference. I hope you and your sister have a lot if fun!

Well, I came to this topic sort of on a lark, bc I actually don't do any exercise anymore. Until very recently I did stretches every morning, and walked a mile every day or every other day. For various stupid reasons I stopped both, tho it's probably just plain old laziness. Now I'm feeling horrible, gaining weight and realize that I must move more and eat less, neither of which is particularly appealing. Maybe if I keep coming on this thread and similar ones I'll change? We shall see.

Well, your on the path, even if lightly right now. Good for you. :)

l turned over in bed again yesterday. and today. l will get serious today. My new computer arrived yesterday. Thank goodness!
The next sound you hear will be a computer crashing through a window. Who's got the last laugh now.

I'm 89 and just do two 20 minute walks inside my house every day. I don't do them outside since cars and imperfections in the sidewalk could cause me to have an accident.

The rest of the day I play the PC game, Civilization VI on Steam.com for hours allowing just 2 hours to also play some chess at Chess.com. I use a Dell PC for all my computer activities.

I tried it. It appears that I need to start getting my affairs in order. :(

Whew... According to this chart, I'm not an old person. :ROFLMAO: My dominant leg is the one with the patella fracture nearly two years ago now... that one lasted only 61 seconds, but the other leg was a minute and 20 seconds. But after a minute it started burning pretty drastically. I really should start doing yoga... it always looks so relaxing.
**** Had to edit... my timer said 1:20... which is not 120 seconds. Good gracious, Kate, learn math. So a minute and a second on one leg and a minute 20 seconds on the other. :giggle:
