what happens when you're getting older and don't feel like answering the phone?

Two of your kids show up knocking on your door griping you out for scaring them ROLLeyes.gif

If I'm not there, it goes to my answering machine and they can leave a message....or not.

I don't get paniky. If it's REALLY important, they can drive here. It's only a few blocks from here.

Why get unglued?

Good for you that you're loved BW...gotta feel good about that!

We screen all calls. If we don't recognize a name or number on caller ID, we let the answering machine answer it. The pests never leave a message. Pest control.

Our kids are in the pacific northwest, they never come knocking, but they do leave messages or email.

Usually if I'm having a nap or something and won't be answering my phone for a while, I give my son a call to let him know.

Some time ago now, my parents took a month long holiday and didn't tell me they were going. I definitely wondered what was up when I repeatedly called with no answer, but as no one had contacted me with any terrible news, I just waited, and eventually they returned.

I don't answer my phone. Even though I am on the 'do not call list' nationally and statewide I still get calls/robo calls at all hours of the day, early morning, late at night and on weekends. I am done running to the phone for these pests. People who know me will leave a message and if I know who it is I will pick up the phone if I am there. I call it my 'poor man's caller ID'

I never answer the phone. Every one important knows that. I am hard of hearing which makes it difficult. I get several calls a day. All from solicitors. All ignored. All of my personal communication is by E-mail. If I have a heart attack or stroke, I don't want them to find me in time.

I do the same. There's some perverse satisfaction in listening to it ring. I feel bad sometimes, I know a lot of the callers are in the job because they need the money and can't get anything else. My wife did that a couple of times over the years to get us through rough patches.

I haven't answered my telephone in more that twenty years, and that includes my cellphone, except for one emergency number.

That's what answering machines are for.

In fact my call blocker is set to allow only 39 numbers in the whole world, and that includes all cellphones, to actually get through to the phone itself. Everything else goes to the monitoring service.

I understand that decision underock. I really do. I told my doctor that in case of stroke I do not want to be brought back or kept alive. My closet daughter said she wasn't going to & could not do that..so I've taken that decision out of her hands..

Speaking of pesky callers. There is this one roofing company that calls me over and over. They don't know I've moved out in the country because they have my mobile number. I answered it finally one day. The guy goes into his sale pitch telling me he has seen the damage on my roof and would like to come give me a free estimate. So I ask him " You're telling me you looked at my roof and you saw that damage? What address?" So he gives me my old address. Then I say " Do you think you can fix that roof?" He says " Yes. We can put a new roof on there right way for you." Then I say....... " Well that would be some neat trick since there is nothing at that address anymore but a vacant lot because that house burned to the ground a year ago. So would you like to tell me you have seen my roof damage again?" He hung up :D

My phone system tells me who is calling. This amazing technology allows me to answer or not. If it is an unwanted call trying to sell me something I sometimes answer and tell them where to go and what to do when they get there...
