What have you bought recently?

In town today, overcast & coolish but no rain (even though precip had been forecast yesterday). Bought: Two-thirds of a tank of gas. Twenty pounds of fresh, wild sockeye salmon from a small, locally owned shop. A small tarp to cover a 24-hour supply of firewood on the rack on our porch. A fifty-pound sack of globe onions.

(We'd been disappointed that the onion "sets" we'd planted in one of our gardens had matured in the shape of squat Chinese lanterns, no larger than about 2.5 inches across. We'd expected when we bought the sets that they were globe onions, but the type we wound up with are very hard to cut to thin slices across the axis. Hence we made the purchase in town.)

Black shirt new fabric 003.JPG
Today we have been to Fabric Land. The red fabric will become a suit that my wife will make for herself.
The blue/grey fabric will become a pair of period baggy trousers. There was an off cut left over on the
blue/grey fabric. The store told my wife that she could have it for half price. She's going to make me
a vintage style, double breasted waistcoat/vest, just like this one.

When you add on all the notions and the pattern, the cost seems a lot,
but compared to ready made garments it's just a fraction. Besides, where
can you buy the period style trousers that I so love?

A water inlet valve for my Whirlpool washer. Should arrive Saturday by FedEx. The water wouldn't turn off after filling the basket. A cheaper fix than buying a new washing machine. Should take about 30 minutes to switch it out.

4 dog leashes to go with the other stuff we'll be donating to the Toronto Humane Society. I like to do this annually. So far, there are food bowls, blankets, and Kongs. We'll most likely drop them off in a few days, rather than wait until Christmas.

I almost bought a new battery for a cordless home phone.

I have a base unit with one handset, and a second handset with a charging base. Some telemarketer or poller called and oddly only the remote handset rang. Huh.

Picked up the non-ringing phone, opened it up, unplugged and replugged the battery, noting the details. Noticed that when I sat it on the base the charging indicator flickered. Huh.

A closer look revealed that one of those invasive brown Chinese stink bugs (thanks New Jersey and globalism!) had crawled in there and it was elevating the handset off the battery charging contacts.

Squish. Stink-bug.jpg

Charging fine now, so one less thing to buy.

Bought two young Sasanqua Yuletide Camellia plants and put them in 16" pots.
I'll leave them in pots until it looks like I have to put them in the ground ... next year(?)
The boy dog, Mason, strongly suggested if I wanted to grow something, I should plant antlers :ROFLMAO:

Remember when Black Friday was fun? No? Well, it was a lot of years ago! Now "Black Friday" seems to start on Wednesdays in January or Mondays in March or whenever some retailer decides they gotta make more money.

The "fun" part was getting up at the butt crack of dawn and waiting for the doors to open, scrambling to the can't-live-without-it item...you know the one...the perfect Christmas gift for someone on your list that you couldn't in a million years afford if not for the great deal.

Pffft. Now everything is supposedly a great deal.

More fun was watching the evening news that showed the crowds, the deals, the pandemonium!

Another summer jacket. I owned one in a longer version that never fit me properly. The sale price was right for this one.

A scarf. I think I have a sickness. It’s to go with my neon orange ski cap that I wear just to be seen while on cross walks. It gets dark so early now.

A new mat for the front door. It’s washable. If I find it’s slippery, well, at least it didn’t cost too much and I wont’ feel bad finding a new one.

Today I paid for a Manicure... and then ..bought a little bunch of groceries in a Supermarket I rarely go into because the quality isn't great, but it was near the nail store.... but the bill still came to well over £60... altho' tbf I did buy a pair of Jogging pants for £14.. but even still.. well over £46 for just a few things... atrocious..

On the way home my indicator light kept flashing fast so it looks like tomorrow I'll have to go to a garage and get someone to fit a new one.. *sigh*

How could you stand to squish it? They stink bad enough when they just see you looking at them. My house was invaded by them early fall to spring every year. I hate them with a passion!

I worked at Sears when Black Friday was real. I remember getting up about 4 am to get ready for work. It was a big deal!
Looking back I'd say it was fun. Of course working at Sears in the mall back in the nineties was fun.
I also went on one Black Friday search, again, when it was real. We got up super early and went to breakfast then split up with our lists and hit the stores. Never went again because each year it was less and less of a bargain. Not worth it.

yep and here, people would queue up for 2 days sometimes outside a store to ensure they were in line for the Best Bargains... Fancy a TV for £2...? that would get them in the store.. and queued around the block... but now it's all rubbish. They artificially inflate prices weeks ahead before reducing them back down to what they originally were, and people think they're getting a bargain... and I can't remember the last time I saw people queuing for a sale that wasn't trainers/sports shoes..

Those camellias look nice and hearty!
I need some new ones too.

Mason is very photogenic and appears to love the camera. lol

I know y'all have been once again waiting with bated breath for a report on my wild and crazy spending. I didn't. Spend, that is. However, I did transfer 2/3 of my paycheck to savings.

DD and I are Walmarting tomorrow so it will be a different story.

Bought five albums.

They're all related in that they include Frank Black/Black Francis. Doolittle, a Pixies classic. Then some Frank solo albums (Oddballs, Snake Oil, and Fast Man - Radar Man, self-titled debut).

I love Frank's music. Down and dirty, but his skill with a melody shines through at all times. He doesn't spend a lot of time refining things, often recording entire albums in two days (played live in the studio to four track, or even two track). The guy's a master.
