In town today, overcast & coolish but no rain (even though precip had been forecast yesterday). Bought: Two-thirds of a tank of gas. Twenty pounds of fresh, wild sockeye salmon from a small, locally owned shop. A small tarp to cover a 24-hour supply of firewood on the rack on our porch. A fifty-pound sack of globe onions.

(We'd been disappointed that the onion "sets" we'd planted in one of our gardens had matured in the shape of squat Chinese lanterns, no larger than about 2.5 inches across. We'd expected when we bought the sets that they were globe onions, but the type we wound up with are very hard to cut to thin slices across the axis. Hence we made the purchase in town.)
