What have you bought recently?

2 weeks ago I agreed to be a foster home for a little dog whose owner died. I took her to the vet for her vaccinations and find out she needed a dental and a growth removed on her gum.

The cost ranges from 2k-2.6k. She’s a wonderful little girl and I realize no one will adopt her with such expensive needs and one of her roots on her tooth is exposed so she either needs a dental or to be put to sleep as it’s painful.

So I scheduled the dental and will keep her. I’m not having the growth biopsied as I won’t pay for cancer treatment. I’m hoping it’s benign and I will have her for a long time.

Today I put down a deposit on some lovely wooden garden furniture to go on the wooden decking that is currently being installed. Part of a big revamp to the rear of our little bungalow. We've been here 3 years in May and this is the last big project to get the place how we want it :)

Sounds like you are on track to enjoy your new space.

My tooth brush quit on me. SO ordered the replacement around 7:00 and it was delivered before lunch. Now I get to deal with a warranty claim on the old one.
Does it ever stop at our house? Well, grass got treated yesterday and sprinkler ran this morning. Kitchen tile and grout cleaning and reselling is scheduled.

Went to Costco & my local produce store yesterday. Total about $175 for food and household supplies. Coffee prices are expected to escalate dramatically this year so I bought 4 big cans of Kirkland Decaf ($70 dollars worth).

Just placed an order with Walmart. Mostly canned & frozen food - enough to pass the $35 threshold so I don't have to pay a service charge.

From another source, I ordered new-to-me grains: 2.8 lbs of organic millet and 4.8 lbs of hulled barley. Have wanted to try both for a while now, and was glad to stumble over a highly rated company who sells them.

I'll tell you so that you won't guess wrong...I spent money on three stonecrop bedding plants today. Surprised? I knew you would be. Also went to Dollar Tree and bought three very large and two medium sized flower pots to replace my tacky old cracked and otherwise shabby pots. Not all the plants I buy get planted in the ground; some go in pots scattered here and there around the garden wherever it feels like I need accents or whatever.

How much did I spend? Well...when I left home I had $110 in my wallet. When we got home I had $43. It's just money💸💸💸

You will enjoy the millet

Wait a minute. I thought you didn't buy from big box, greedy, soulless corporate vampires? WTH are you doing at Walmart and Costco?

I never said that.

In any case, Costco is a responsible employer who stands up to the bullies. I have no moral conflicts about shopping there.

As for WM, I hold my nose when ordering from them, but my little independent grocers don't carry everything I need. Sometimes it's a matter of choosing the lesser evil. DH needed some meds that Costco doesn't carry, so I rounded out the order with foodstuffs that my grocer & Costco don't carry.

I figure, better WM than AMZ, Target, and big chain pharmacies, even if only marginally so. (No independent pharmacies nearby.)

Costco is actually a great company. Not all big companies are evil. I no longer shop Amazon, Walmart, target, etc. A little research shows which companies to avoid and people in big numbers can really hurt companies. Some people have no choice if they live in a rural area.

Thankfully I live in a big enough city to shop my values.
Everyone I know is doing it and the hardest to give up was the convenience of Amazon but we all have done it.

Agree. I set my Amazon Prime to not renew automatically this May. I placed an order with them yesterday for a different specialty OTC med for DH. I needed to use up a credit I have with them anyway. Two birds, one stone.

I'm not saying I'll NEVER buy from Amazon again, but I won't renew Prime and will hunt around elsewhere first. AMZ may no longer be my first, second or third choice, but also practice the wisdom of not cutting cut off my nose to spite my face. If everyone cuts their AMZ use by half or 2/3, it will be enough to get their board of directors' attention in a very big way.

My shopping has changed now too. I won’t be renewing my Prime account and only ordered something from them that I can’t get elsewhere.

For only the second time I ordered DH two pairs of jeans through Walmart.ca. They didn’t have his size in the store and this brand fits him. Guess they must have had one pair tucked away because Doordash was delivering them that day. In the early evening my phone rang 3 different times in a short period with a number that was from the other side of the country, so I didn’t answer. Finally got one from Doordash and I could barely understand the woman and she hung up on me when I said the unit number was a house, not an apartment. They need to improve their system. Anyway, I was impressed by a same day delivery and I felt sorry for the driver.
