What have you bought recently?

The arborist company is here today. The spellchecker keeps underlining the word arborist. It means a tree surgeon you stupid computer. We have our trees and and shrubs pruned back every year. This year one of the beech trees will have to go, it's all but dead and could collapse so better to take it down safely.
 
The 6yr/old battery in our car has been losing its "charge" for the past few weeks. If we don't drive it for 3 or 4 days, I have to hook up a charger. This morning I saw that our local car parts store was having a sale, so I pulled the old battery, and went there. A battery that would normally cost almost $230 only cost me $145 with tax....I saved almost $100.

Well. DD and I went to the garden center to see if there was anything that needed to accompany us to my garden. First, we hit the clearance shelves of course. We got fun stuff and on the way to the checkout, a curcuma jumped into our cart. It came home with us, too. There are still a few bucks left on the gift card, and all the flowers have been planted.

Then...we had to stop by a different Kroger than the one where I work to see if they had my favorite ice cream. Had to. I mean, what if we hadn't stopped? I'd never have known that they had it. Woohoo!

Flowers. Ice cream. Life is good:)
 
An almond croissant. My favourite. I‘m nibbling on it now as I drink my coffee.

Little things in a miscellaneous store. Can’t call it a $ store any more. The bottom line sure added up.

A new face scrub and she gave me some samples. Just as I was leaving I spotted a drink that I’ve been searching for since I tasted the sample. The great thing about this was that it was $4 less than at the fancy store where I bought the croissant.
 
Just bought my Dad a shoe rack for the front Hallway...and an oven timer for his wonky appliance. These were two early Father's Day gifts. They're both practical items which I hope he uses and enjoys.

I love chocolate..I never have a house without chocolate..( Dark chocolate) ... I hardly ever had chocolate until I was about 50...now I eat it most days... however it looks like I might have to give it up, because it seems very possible that I'm allergic to it...:(

Without working I rarely buy clothes because I buy good quality and they last a long time. Two years ago when I bought my condo I needed some new furniture because it was much smaller than my house so I bought a loveseat and chair for my living room. I also had to downsize my bed to a queen. I mostly got rid of my extra furniture and brought the smaller pieces that would fit nicely.

Other than that I have been downsizing so definitely not adding things. More of my money has went to rising prices on essentials and travel and vet bills. My mom loved clothes but I remember when she quit buying them too for the same reasons. I can easily go a week or two without spending money.

I got my 6 month car insurance renewal and it was up 30%. I called and that’s the best they could do. I shopped around and couldn’t do better. Then I looked at my coverage and I am carrying much better coverage than I actually need as my car is 15 years old. I reduced it and got the cost down.

Then my condo insurance went from 670/year to 740. I looked at the coverage and I didn’t need the level I had. I had 45k of replacement insurance for personal property. My condo is only 855 sq ft so even if I bought top of the line everything it would only add up to 20k so I lowered the amount to 30k. With a few other changes I got the price back down to 640.

It’s actually pretty depressing to have to keep worrying about inflation of all the regular expenses. Glad I am not in the accumulation phase of life. Although most of us here lived through the high inflation of 70-80’s.
 
I bought from Amazon a bidet attachment for my toilet and a soft toilet seat also. But, I am too timid to try to mess with the plumbing, so I scheduled a plumber to come do the installation. He can't come out for another week+ and the cost of the plumber is twice what I paid for the bidet+seat.

The good news is the retirement community's plumber service has a reputation for taking a few months to send out bills, so maybe I'll win the lottery by the time I have to pay. While I had them on the phone I mentioned I'd been waiting a half a year to get the bill for the water valve replacements last December (the money to pay for it was escrowed as part of the condo purchase agreement), and they checked and said the bill was sent to the previous owner and has been paid. So I've been fretting for months for no reason (because the escrowed money would revert to the previous owner if not used within some timeframe so I worried that by the time the bill came the money would have disappeared).

I hope I like the bidet experience (have never in my life experienced it). I've been wanting one ever since the toilet paper shortage in 2020, but previously they seemed to require electricity to heat the water and dry the posterior, but now they sell some that are super cheap ($27) and only use the water pressure to work, and the people in reviews say the lack of heated water doesn't bother them.

Three new windows for my garage. I have been renovating/restoring/revitalizing an mid-century home and have replaced all of the windows in the house and now need to do the same out in the garage. The windows are ordered, just waiting for installation.

Also scheduled someone to sealcoat the driveway and I have the landscaping company coming by next week to apply lime to the lawn before it gets too hot and burns the grass.

I don't have one at this house but I have a Bidet in the main bathroom of the Spanish Casa.. I miss having one here..
