Okay, folks. Buckle up!
DD had to go to the credit union so while we were there, I bought some cash because. It's always handy to have a few bucks in my Hovel Hidey Holes and in my wallet.
Credit union is directly across the road from a small shopping center where one of my favorite "everything" stores (Kirkland) is located, and we could see it from where we were parked. "Hey! DD! Yanno where we haven't been since forever?"
I mean, we were just across the road, right? So we had to drop in, right? There's always something in that store with my name on it. Today it was a 3.5 ft x 3.5 ft acrylic painting of trees. Trees. They aren't green trees. They're shades of beige/brown/gray with some white thrown in here and there. And waaay in the background at the bottom there's a city skyline in greys and almost-but-not-quite blues.
It "was" in the store, but now it's in my sitting room. Not hung yet. I'm gonna need to do some decluttering and rearranging before hanging it.
It was expensive, too, for just a plain old acrylic that was probably mass-produced (Kirkland only had one in the store, though). It was displayed way up high where we couldn't see the price so the clerk got a step ladder to fetch it down.
After she peeled me off the floor over the marked price, she assured me that everdamnthang in the store was marked down, on sale and marked down again, and she'd scan it.
I left with the painting and a mere $60 lighter in the pocketbook. Woohoo!
But, yanno, sometimes ya just gotta throw caution to the winds and piddle away money on something neither necessary nor practical.
On to the next adventure, the garden center. I was right. Labor Day weekend. Plants weren't 3/$10 this year. They were 2/$10. Inflation. Fine. We waltzed right past those and to the back of the center to see what Clarence had to offer.
For $22 and change, a plant called Tricolor Ginger, another called Flax Lily, both for the pretty foliage contrast, and because they might survive winter here; also got a golden coneflower in full bloom, two garden phlox (one pale pink and one bright pink), and two enormous yellow strawflower plants. The strawflowers were marked at $5, discounted from $30!
The garden phlox and coneflower plants are definitely perennials; the strawflowers might or might not be, depending on how harsh our winter is this year.
Then I had a sinking spell and had to sit while DD checked out. The checkout clerk knows us...of course she does!...and noticed my "spell" so handed me a bottle of water from her cooler.
Home. It's cool today so maybe later this afternoon one or more of the new plants will find a garden home. Gotta rest first.
Best news of all? There's $27 left on my garden center gift card! Woohoo and stuff.
It'll be a while before I spend money again.
