What have you bought recently?

Twin beds (Ashley Alisdair) that Hubs had to put together because that's the only way they came. When the men came with the two new mattresses they said Son and I needed to drill down the bed slats lest they fall through. So we did, using their giant drill.

Then they set the mattresses on the slats and left. Hubs came home and sat on one bed and the slats broke and splintered.

We looked over at the other bed and one slat had broken all by itself along with a chunk of the side rail. Now the mattresses and bases are sitting on the floor inside the "bed ."

We had to push the two 'beds" together because the dog couldn't handle the change.

From now on I'm not buying anything but food and underwear,

I've been looking for a replacement for my old Nikon 70-200mm lens - a bread & butter lens for the pro events work I do. Alas is getting old and tired - and needs a lump of cash spending on a new auto focus motor.

This just out this week from Tamron - a very versatile range and fast too! Built like a tank! It only became available on Thursday - and I got mine Yesterday! Two very varied test shoots so far and it's a keeper! I have two freelance jobs on next week so looking forward to putting it through its paces in that area!

Here it is on my main camera body...

I don't know what's the matter with me.. after I came home, did the mowing, I just felt rally unwell. Made dinner then couldn't eat it.. fell asleep on the sofa sitting up... for an hour, then came up here sorted through the autumn photos I took for about 1/2 hour, before I felt I needed to go and sit downstairs on the sofa again, feeling very tired again.. and fell asleep AGAIN..for an hour and a 1/4,,,, just felt really wiped out, almost flue like..

Odd then that now at 1.30am, I feel ok .. not 100 % but much better than a few hours ago. Only trouble is, because I had those late naps, I'll be up half the night now...

Take care, HD. Try to sleep again to help get well. 🌹

I bought a set of solar powered outdoor string lights. I need to replace a set that did me proud for several years through harsh winters, but these things aren't built to the same standard as normal building fixtures and they are also built down to a low price. So I've watched trying to find something very close to the ones which served well and when they went on sale I jumped.

This is more valuable now. Close by, next door there has always been a mercury vapor "barn light" on at night. It was operated at low electricity rates under an old night illumination program. New neighbors have just let it go once the bulb failed this time. It has left our end of the street in inky blackness during the night. While we have street lamps, there are none close by and the closest ones are blocked by grown up street trees now.

My house has a row of evergreen shrubbery along the front, and I mount the bulbs on stakes a few inches above the ground beneath these plants. It provides more ambient illumination than direct, but enough to take the edge off the blackness calling out "come rob me, strip my car."

I should probably make an inquiry. Something more permanent and robust might get me an insurance discount. Or maybe not, it might raise questions that could jack my rates up.

Here we are again, another opportunity to get it right :)

I slept the sleep of the innocent last night. Well, because I am! You can tell just by looking at me:ROFLMAO:

It's going to be another dandy day here. When this spell of sunny and cool days is over, expect a lot of whining and complaints from me because I'm getting really spoiled.

Because I did so much baking yesterday, there shouldn't be a whole lot to knock out today except cookies. Never. Ending. Cookies. There's a customer who must do catering because he comes in and cleans out the cookie tables and then asks if we have any more "in the back." Sir has begged him to order ahead so we'll have plenty for his needs and still some left for regular customers. He refuses. Grrr.

After yesterday's annoyances, I've decided to just ignore TL's foolishness and let her either shape up on her own or sink.. Can't do a darned thing about her willingness (or lack thereof) to work. The store manager got involved yesterday. Wut wo! I think she's on his list, and it ain't the list for Christmas cards:eek::oops:

Time to get myself together and go crank out 🥐🥐 and cookies. Lots and lots of cookies today. HUNDREDS of cookies. And then I'm gonna leave. On time at 11.

Tomorrow I go back to 6-12 for the duration.

Can y'all manage to behave until I get home? Try.

Well I went out to finalize my new solar string lights installation. Sun was up for good visibility, still too cool for mosquitos, flattened cardboard box so I didn't have to kneel down in dewy grass.

Went ok for about 4 lights. Sadly I had 12 to do!

After the 4th light I couldn't get my old butt up no matter how I struggled. Even grabbing shrubbery limbs my feet and knees just weren't going to make it. I feared falling over on the ground, stuck until the embarrassment of some neighbor noticing me and offering help - if they didn't panic and call for an ambulance. Yeah, crazy stuff can go through your mind.

But I got it together and fought through the pain. It left my right foot a bit painful, I guess it had my full weight for longer than I'd thought.

Whew. I debated waiting and then trying some more but instead I decided to change my angle of attack, with a folding step-stool to serve as a seat for resting. This worked far better than kneeling on the ground and getting back up repeatedly.

I guess I need to add some new exercises to my routine so I can build more strength to manage better. Losing a bit more weight can't hurt either. I'm happy that the job is done to my satisfaction now, but boy my legs are tired from the extended squatting I did instead.

So much for a smart purchase!

@hollydolly how are you feeling now?

Good grief. Just discovered that I posted here this morning instead of on the what are you doing thread. No idea how to move it.

Anyway, I came here to make a big announcement. Really big. REALLY, REALLY BIG!

I spent money. A whale of a lot of money and I spent it. Yup. 💸

I bought a new laptop and will probably never get to spend another cent in this lifetime. Picking it up tomorrow. They're moving all the data off the dead laptop to the new one. Until normal circumstances, DSIL could do that, but he doesn't have the right tools to deal with the hardware.

I am now poverty stricken. There's one good thing. I paid real money, didn't raid savings and didn't use a credit card. Yay me.

Excuse me now, I'm on my way to the poorhouse. It's a long walk🚶‍♀️and I want to get there before dark.🌃

It must be catching because I posted a woe-is-me post on here yesterday when I didn't feel well... couldn't delete it after kind people commented on it..

going over to the other thread to see what you spent

I’ve recently purchased these two supplements that I’m going to take with conventional medicine for my mental health. It was recommended by my Naturopath Doctor.

The Ashwagangha I’m taking with conventional medicine to help with panic attacks and anxiety but it seems to have many other proven health benefits according to this article. IMG_2467.jpeg
Possible benefits of ashwagandha include:
  • reducing stress.
  • improving sleep.
  • boosting athletic performance.
  • improving memory.
  • increasing male fertility.
  • reducing inflammation.
  • managing blood sugar.
9 Proven Health Benefits of Ashwagandha

The other supplement is magnesium to help sooth my nerves and muscles.

Did it again. Fat fingers.

I'm pretty sure I managed to do this today myself. I cut out the post, replaced it with something brief but appropriate, then pasted the post back where I had meant it to be.

A moderator might be able to "move" a post, but even then it probably leaves a trail.

A desk chair for DGD for Christmas (that's exactly three months from today). It's all very technical and has lumbar support and stuff, and probably can be programmed to walk the dog, feed the cat, cook dinner and clean up the kitchen.

My old laptop cannot be salvaged. Everything on it, a lifetime of pictures and priceless info, gone. Nothing could be migrated to the new laptop because hard drive is fried.😭

A pair of Ilse Jacobsen shoes. Hard to tell from this pic but they're Navy Blue and sooo comfortable! I love the perforation all over since my feet are always hot and the saleslady said I can throw them right in the washing machine on cold. Where have these shoes been all my life, lol.
I bought online another pair of these wonderful shoes. The brick and mortar store where I bought the first pair had them in a lot of different colors but when I went online, amazon had even more colors and even had them in a hard-to-find, dark teal that I've been looking for forever to match my slacks. LOL, the color is called "Beetle".

Now I'm saving up my money to get them in white.

Looked them up because the photo you posted shows them to be pretty cute: $93 at Amazon. Holy mackerel, Andy!

I ordered checks yesterday and they were shipped.

I ordered a washing machine water discharge hose from Grainger today. The old one developed a leak. It looks like it will fit, otherwise I'll have to get a seller of washing machines or a plumber and pay for labor and be overcharged for the hose.
