Bought groceries today. Eggs are absurdly high again so I skipped them for now. Oatmeal was double what I paid last time. Butter way up too.

I won't copy my whole list here. You get the idea and probably see it for yourself.

So I wandered to Amazon. Found oats for less than half what the generic went for at the grocery store. Decided "Why not?" and bought them so I'll have them on hand. Good shelf life.

Then I picked up a few other items there from the same (new) product line, mostly items for around $1 or less and some of those even have Black Friday pricing. Buying 4 items in this category got me another 15% discount. And then I applied rewards points cash, so even cheaper. Throwing in another Black Friday item got me to $25 of eligible items and so next day delivery.

Made to measure clothing is my addiction, when I bought my green striped blazer I found it a difficult choice given that I loved the blue too. The green blazer is wonderful, so much so that I went back.

John Perret of Fox Tailoring, has much to answer for. He's about to damage my wealth..........again! Throughout my working life I wore a dark, conservative suit, it gave kudos to the rank of general manager. The January sales were a good source of the ready to wear type of suit that I wore.

Nowadays I am no longer the head-honcho, so there's no need to be boring, and John Perret knows that. He texted me a copy of a fabric swatch, he added that he had a space in his appointments diary and just to be sure that I was hooked, he offered me a very tempting price. I shall be seeing him on Thursday at ten o'clock.

Sunday Mumsy complained about the cold in Atlanta and that she has nothing to wear. SO immediately ordered lined leggings which will be delivered today. I bet a dollar that she will throw them out. So I called yesterday to go over a list of things I was about to order for her. Temper, temper! She does not want cr.p but a nice warm cashmere sweater and extra long and feel it in the store. Head scratch! I ordered the whole caboodle in my size as everything was 50% off and I had store money. Layering staples.

Count it as a Christmas present to yourself, it's what I do when I am tempted and it works all year round; January sales and I am thinking, "oh it will be an early Christmas gift" ;)

I love your style and your striped blazers always look great but, I wonder if you ever think of going for something different? Herringbone, checks, plaids maybe? I thought of you recently when we were at a vintage market and there was a guy wearing a paisley jacket, it looked really stylish.
Happy shopping :)

I havent got it yet.. but it will be hanging from a chain
After my kitchen remodel about 8 years ago, one area gets too little light. The ceiling is angled, open beam so no ceiling power or easy way to install lighting. There's a wall outlet (near the floor) that's controlled by a switch, so running a chain up and suspending a light wouldn't be difficult, but it's so 1970s-ish that I've been hesitant.

Most with my challenge now enclose beams to create hollow openings in the ceiling, then install recessed lighting. I'm loath to do that partly because I don't want to deal with the mess and expense, and partly because I like the open beam look.

I'm going to talk to DH this morning about going with a light on a chain, and to heck with whether it's in style or out. Let the next owners of this house figure out a more permanent solution if they so desire.

Would wall lamps or tall floor lamps work? You may be able to hise the chain under trim with a hollow center.

well it's very much in style here ....

There's insufficient footprint space for a floor lamp.

Wall lights would involve cutting into the drywall to run the power up in a couple of places, then patching and repainting the wall. Plus I'm not positive they'd cast enough light where I need it.

Lovely!

The look that's out of style concerns the chain down the wall to the outlet more than a suspending chain for the fixture itself. But truth is, we're old, so if some of our furnishings are of an old style, so be it.

Very few people host parties anymore - our guests should be (and are) happy to be invited. That's what I'll focus on.

as far as I know we have never had chains down the wall to the outlet...never been a thing here to my knowledge

You flatter me Trish, and you are most perceptive. The grey suit has a herringbone pattern, albeit feint and the mid-brown suit is a classic pin-stripe. Admittedly I wasn't in front of a camera at work otherwise the shoes would have been a single colour.

As for the paisley pattern, it looks great on the silk lining of a jacket and the lady made me a couple of paisley patterned shirts. I did think about showing you other suits and more conservative jackets but I'm already something of a show-off, best leave those in the wardrobe.

I can't recall seeing those suits before, they are very smart.

I love fashion so, post away :)

Good to hear that Mrs H&C is well enough to enjoy her sewing again. (y)

Thank you so much for your kind remarks regarding my wife's health, I appreciate that. She's not out of the woods just yet, but I do see that positive smile that gives me confidence. I tell her that we are going to emulate my grandparents, married for seventy-five years and died within three months of each other.

A wide pair of mustard jeans you say, well the trousers below are a bit lighter than mustard and they are wool not denim, but they are certainly wide: They have a higher waist line with a fish tail design.

The blue suit is made from linen, don't ever have something made from linen. Look at the crumpled trousers. My tailor pleaded with me to use a 25% synthetic mix to give the linen structure. I didn't listen, I knew best, what an expensive error. The photo was taken at an Hawaiian themed wedding, my collar and tie gave way to an Aloha shirt for the reception.
