What have you got in your cupboards that rarely, if ever get used?

Spices. As a man who cooked for himself all his life I never used spices in my cooking. Yes, bachelor cooking is bland. But, no one has ever shown me how to use spices in my cooking. My cupboard whose contents i've inherited is full of spices. They are so very expensive, now; I am afraid to throw them away. Could anyone tell me where to learn how to use spices in cooking?

An aluminum pot and lid from the 1930's / 40's that my grandfather used to make his soups in.
I don't cook in or on aluminum cookware.
... not sure how my mother's piggy bank she had as a little girl, ended up there ... but I don't use it.

Camping cooking gear was always made with aluminum. Iron is too heavy to carry far. What did you cook in when camping?

Potato masher, electric knife, 10 cup coffee machine.
Used the masher tonight for swede/turnip to accompany dinner. Had received electric knife for our wedding. It broke in our first move, one year and two days for guarantee. We didn't bother getting new one.

Finally, we replaced the 10 cups filter/drip coffee machine. Got a small stainless steel one cup cone filter plus an 8 cups nonelectric Percolator. These two latter items are now in constant use daily.

When suddenly you downsize from 4 to 3, then from 3 to 2 and you go through the years of accumulated goods which were useful at one point, it makes a huge difference.

We gave to the Sally Ann over 35 bags of clothes, DIY tools that were doubled, bedding changes meant that all single beds linen for two munchkins were no longer required but we've sewn some together for the now king-size bed.

Our yet-to-be-completed project is going through all the recorded from TV series, films and programmes husband had done for all of us. Thankfully, the charity shops have been useful for finding these and replace them easily!

It's good to do a clearance sometimes. It also kept us busy and away from depression.

Sorry to ramble, but it's been a wonderful healing process.😸

Now that you mention it, I think my Boy Scouts kit was aluminum ... but haven't been scout camping in a few decades.
And the kit is long gone.

The few other times camping, I'd take cast iron ... no trekking to campsite involved.

The Internet!

Oh Patty, use them! Fresh ground coffee in a press tastes so good.
Yes it sure does but I’m on meds and am groggy in the mornings. We have a keurig which makes a perfect cup of coffee in about 30 seconds . Every once in a while I grind up some Nephie Screech and bounce around all day on a coffee buzz. Lol šŸ˜‚ I also like the pumpkin spice .

TWO Keurigs broke on me. I hate them. They did make good coffee before they shut down and mildew took over.

BTW still binging 'This is Us'. Season 3 was good. Looks like 4 will be.
I think they do a great job of weaving a time tapestry of events without confusion.
I love that show. Whoever produced that show did an incredible job. The acting is great to but the way the story unfolds going back and forth in time is brilliant. Confusing at first
