What I don’t understand about Christianity

Right away they tell you, you are flawed, dirty and sinful. The remedy is Jesus Christ, to be like him. Rather than recognizing a persons individual assets you must tailor your life after Jesus. First of all not even identical twins are exactly a like so how is it that Christian’s should subscribe to be like Jesus?

Perhaps to be like Jesus is to have the faith of Jesus and not the actual person? Faith is a mystery to me. I cannot force myself to believe in things so hypothetically impossible no matter how much I try, when logically speaking the context is so emphatically impossible such as the rapture of believers meeting Jesus in the sky, or the concepts of sin, heaven and hell as incentives to surrender yourself to Jesus.

Maybe people need religion including Christianity because they are told from day one that they are incapable of caring for themselves, that you must rely on powers greater than your own in order to survive. So it is with religion and Christianity, instead of teaching humans how to be self-sufficient, religion capitalizes on human weakness by persuading people into believing they are insufficient without god. How convenient that religion has the answers to all of mankind’s problems, even those created by religion if you have the faith to sustain the power religion has over you.

I recall when I first questioned the validity of religion, when in actuality I questioned my parents motive for forcing me to be like them, scared to live their life outside the jurisdiction of church and religion. It has taken me a lifetime to sort through the BS of religion and becoming my own person. This is why I am adamant in teaching people to question everything because what you believe is who you are, perhaps if given a choice you might realize that you have been fooled like many others including myself.
Listen to the old George Carlin on religion. I'd c&p it here but there is too much foul language. Really, do watch it.

Well, here ya go, Putin / Russian Orthodox Church. Is he saved, can ya believe it.
He's the reason for the Return of the Russian Orthodox Church.
You know, a really Holy type person? He's helping Iran today!
A spy with the KGB and most likely baptized.
Do onto others and you will have them do onto you.
Order 100,000's of people to their death. Good God fairing Man by golly.
Murders scores on Easter Weekend.

Lead a peaceful life by believing you're peaceful. Pray & do as best as I can.
For every honest person Haha there a Used Car Salesman.

Pretty much every corner of the world holds a different belief.
Are they peaceful or just looking at a Nuke.
Are Greedy places the real problems in the world today?
Are Over worked, tired and hungry people a big problem for themselves?
Are underworked, lazy and Selfish people a big problem for themselves?
Is born with a Silver Spoon a Bad thing? Maybe its a Silver plated tin Cup. ... :ROFLMAO: ...
Iran is looking a nuke, but are not peaceful. It's been a long time since my Air Force days but there is nothing peaceful about that regime. The young people are generally peaceful but they have no power.

Putin is an arse, and evil does exist...

I've known a lot of "Christians" - who I call CHINOs (CHristians In Name Only)" ...StarSong

...and regarding the Mahatma Gandhi Picture that "Star Song" posted:

SNOPES:
A popular quote attributed to Mahatma Gandhi was likely never uttered by him — as is often the case with quotes widely shared online and attributed to famous people. "I like your Christ, but not your Christianity," the famed Indian independence leader has been quoted as saying. An alternate version of the quote states, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Here's the thing...
1. "Judge not Lest Ye be Judged"...we ALL Sin and calling Christians "CHINOs"...well, I won't pass judgement:oops:
2. Christ would've had no reason to die on the cross for our sins if there were no Sinners

But I don't expect you to believe it, because you did not see it. God's not gonna unzip the sky and say "Here's Johnny!" You must first seek the kingdom of heaven for yourself.

Mr. Ed, I grew up Methodist too. One of my first objections was the Apostles Creed. I could jive with everything until the part I believe in the Holy Catholic Church. The so-called mother church. Right then and there I concluded the creation of church was man.
But I continued to seek God. I continued to sin too. Still do, and unfortunately I enjoy it too much. Maybe some of the things that people say are sinful are really not. I dunno, that's for God to decide, not me. All I can do ask for wisdom and pray about it.
I grew up in the Lutheran church, I was perplexed by that reference, but pretty much attributed it to being just an artifact, a leftover bit of verbiage from the mother church.

I don't believe the world is flat, nor do I continue to create threads to debate those who hold this view. It seems rather pointless, unless some small part of my mind believes the world is flat and I'm hoping to be enlightened.

I grew up in the Presbyterian Church just down the street from the Methodists. I loved going to MYF at that church. They had a young preacher who was nice to us. But back to the Apostle's Creed. We recited that also in our church. And I remember well I BELIEVE in THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH. Had no clue....Like you and decided man created some of it. Hell for sure. But I pray and I guess that is "searching for God" If America and its people were more like what Jesus preached the world would be a great place.....but alas.........Ghandi had it right....

It's what they call "faith". If you don't have it you shouldn't become a Christian and if you already are a Christian then you ought to accept that you are a flawed Christian ... or drop out.

Ghandhi's experience of Christians is remarkably similar to my own. I've known a lot of "Christians" - who I call CHINOs (CHristians In Name Only). I grew up up in the church, then attended for many years as an adult, and have read the Bible cover-to-cover. The number of true followers of Christ that I've run into? Let's just say I can count them on one hand and have fingers left over.

Most CHINOs really get off on beating people up with their Bibles.

Ghandi, of course, was no day at the beach himself.

There are tons of bible swinging better than them examples out there.
Bible Bullies too! Human better than throw examples of Bible Ites.

Watch where the wealth is and enjoy lots of quiet problems / trouble.

This. A part of their minds believe or wonder, otherwise they wouldn't spend so much time & energy trying to tear down God, the Bible, believers, etc. As for some of the scripture taken out of context or twisted..... well, we know who is responsible for that. So, it's meaningless.

This is what blows my mind:
1. Why get so aggressive denying His existence? I bet they don't spew such anger & sarcasm about the toothfairy!:ROFLMAO:
2. Why go out of their way to "discuss" someone that they claim doesn't exist?
3. Why is it so important to them that they get obsessive about trying to convince others or teaching them He isn't real?
4. Why do these folks bring up God or Christianity then attack people. If people done you wrong, why you go and blame God for it. He didn't do it. lol
5. And, most important, if people would study the Word themselves..... why on earth would they hate Christ? Why would they get angry at His teachings?

Pearls & swine.....

Actually He did blame his father. "Why have you forsaken me," he said.

No. It's been taken out of context. Centuries earlier, in Psalm 22 King David wrote "Why hast you forsaken me". Then, while Jesus was on the cross He remembered King David's words from Psalm 22 and used it for a different purpose Like when a preacher today says, “Remember the words of Psalm 22.” As Jesus took on Himself the sins of all humankind, He acknowledged feeling abandoned by the Father, yet, like David, He still trusted in God. He knew that He was fulfilling God’s purpose by laying down His life: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus believed that God would not forsake Him in that endeavor.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” With these words, Jesus also beckoned His followers to make the connection and recognize Psalm 22’s prophetic implications. David had seen down through history to vividly portray the Messiah’s crucifixion (see verses 7, 14–18). Thus, in calling attention to the psalm, Jesus showed once again that He Himself was the fulfillment of Old Testament Scripture.

Also, in further study Jesus likely felt abandoned at the final moments. He had taken on the sin of all mankind (to the end of time), and God can not - or will not - look upon evil, He turns His face away. :/

I didnt see anyone as aggressive - but obviously there is a difference between the tooth fairy who no adults believe in and nobody tries to make their tooth fairy religion affect other people

discussing ones experience with leaving religion or the affect any religion has had on their lives seems quite valid to me.

Other side of the coin... Each person is accountable to the Creator. The Creator doesn't need us to intercede on His behalf. Telling others about His love for us should never turn into a battle, it's a love story after all.
