What influences you?

I don't trust organizations who have my best interests in mind. I am people cautious probably from experience. I like psychedelic rock from my counter-culture days, action movies, maybe a guy thing? Thriller and Suspense movies because I like it on the edge, horror because I like to be disturbed. Mystery movies to keep me guessing. Comedy for the lighter side of me.

Classic rock because it's not like any other, new wave, blues/blues rock because it's all I need.

For things to influence a predisposition or interest must exist. What influences you?

The only person, or thing, that influences me besides myself is my son. If my husband were still around, my answer would be different. I've had bad scrapes with bad health, and my son has always been there for me as he will in my future.

Classic rock & other things from my sparkling youth have already influenced me for life. They are habits now, not influences.

I'm influenced by Amazon reviews for items I purchase.

I'm influenced by IMDB ratings for movies I watch. If a movie has a rating of over 7, there's a pretty good chance its good or at least watchable, although there have been some real turkeys with high ratings and some decent movies rated 6 or even lower, but for the most part, I agree with the ratings. The exceptions are when it comes to series. Many of them have high ratings but really suck. Interestingly enough, IMDB is owned by Amazon.

I wish I knew of a book reviewer who shared my tastes. There must be one out there, but I haven't found him or her yet.

Hard to say, I am influenced by a lot of people and things. I am easily influenced, but I don't usually act on it, so harder to persuade, not sure I said that right...
I don't trust organizations who have my best interests in mind.
I think that would be a pretty short list, in reality organizations mostly have their own self-interest in mind. Not a evil or bad thing, its the way they have to be to survive. We just need to keep that in mind.

when the moon is approaching my moods both days and nites seem better.
when its gone, the next two weeks seem more irritable.
Do you mean Full Moon? I'm energuzef by it. The waning doesn't impact me the full 2 weeks, but a couple of days each side of full dark of the moon i don't make major life decisions, and i try to take a breath before i allow myself to give in to anger or sadness.

I look at ratings too but there again, ratings may not apply to my likes and dislikes. This brings me to the question, am I so shallow-minded that I must depend on another's opinion to navigate my life for me? What if all ratings were a ploy to influence people like you and me so that specific industries may prosper? It is like election time, who are you going to believe?
I will venture to say nothing is entirely as it seems.

Major influences on my life are the song Imagine by John Lennon and the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. I am including them here, so scroll if you wish.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin' for today
Ah
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Desiderata - Words for Life

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
