I try to feel the same way but..................a person who blocks a grocery aisle with their cart does irritate me. I know, I've said that before but it really does bug me.
My husband also gets irritated by this. I don't, partly because I have ADD/ADHD and am sometimes the offender. Mostly it comes from 50+ years of grocery shopping at least a twice a week and am accustomed to shopping rhythms and etiquette: When an unattended cart is in the way, move it a couple of feet, continue on, and don't give it another thought.
Shoppers don't intentionally block aisles. They momentarily succumb to chaotic layouts and purposely distracting displays - all those shiny squirrels increase impulse buys - and forget to shift their cart out of the way.
Grocery shopping requires a lot of short-term memory - and humans can only keep so much in our RAM space. Stay with me...
Sometimes cart location gets lost in: I think I need more apples. Those look good. Are they on sale? Maybe go with Granny Smiths this time instead? Sometimes green apples are a bit too sharp though. Are apples in season right now? When
is apple season anyway? Wasn't it just the autumn when I was a kid? It's nice to have all this fruit year-round. Probably global sourcing. Think I'll go over and give some of those a green apples a squeeze. Nothing worse than a soft, mealy apple. Or am I supposed to thump apples? But I really don't know how to thump an apple or how to interpret the result of the thump. I'll just stay with squeezing.
By this time I'm standing in front of the apples, giving them a squeeze. I put some in a bag, happy with my decision to go with Granny Smiths this time, then spot strawberries and repeat the process. Apples and strawberries now in hand, I look around and think, "Oh crap. Where did I leave my cart?"
p.s. This is
exactly how my mind works when I'm grocery shopping. Hope it helps.
