If you live in New York City long enough (at least in the 1970's and 1980's), sooner or later you'll have a run in with the Mob. I worked at a place in Greenwich Village. The Mafia owned all of the carting companies in the city. They removed the trash for all businesses. Early one morning they started a fire in the 50 gallon drums we put our trash in. Then they moved them near the front of the building that was mainly wood and glass. When I arrived the next morning, the whole front of the building was burned out.
The reason? Our company refused to rent a dumpster. So they kept stealing our drums, trying to force the company to rent their dumpster.
One of our bosses threatened the mob run company and said he will take pictures of the thugs stealing the drums. Nothing happened for about a month, and then the fire. The owner had to pay over $100,000 for repairs. Today it would be over a million.
That why citizens of the city loved it when there would be those mob rub outs. We loved seeing the mobsters kill each other.
