What is a favorite memory you have with one of your siblings?

One day as a child I was with my brother. We were walking through the woods and came across a stream. My brother bet that he could jump across it, and that I couldn't. I was so competitive then that I leapt across, just to fall short and splashed right into the stream. Then, my brother leapt across, and didn't make it either! We both sat, wet as dogs, and giggled for what seemed like an hour.

OMG... too many to pluck one from my memory.

Gosh... I think one that stands out the most for me, is sitting on the couch with my baby siblings laying on my lap. They were newborns at the time, and just looking at this innocent life before me that seemingly came from nowhere, used to cause me to lose myself in wonder and awe.

My used to tell me that she was on a special diet when she was pregnant, so for years that's what I believed, women just had to go on a special diet to have a baby. LOL!

Anyhow, just staring into my baby siblings eyes, smelling them (the freshness of their skin), feeling how soft their hair and skin was, holding their tiny little delicate hands, and when they'd wrap their incy-wincy fingers around my index finger (so sweet), and grabbing hold of their little feet and gently bicycling them back and forth to make them smile, kick, and vocalize their happiness.

My brother is 5 years older than me. When he was in high school, he got his first job as a "go-fer" at the local newspaper office. At Christmastime, he bought me a stuffed animal, a beautiful gray poodle with a red ribbon. I was so shocked and THRILLED to get a gift from my big brother, and he was so proud to have bought it with money he earned. I'll never forget that Christmas and I wish I knew what happened to that poodle. :(

I remember playing tackle football with my baby brother and 4 of his friends
They would give me a 10 point advantage,at first they couldn't figure out how to stop me
The next thing I knew, they started to tackle me at the knees, thats all it took.

My little brother is ten years younger than me. My nick name for him was "the Accident". When he was about 6, he came down with chicken pox. I remember when he came from the doctor's, he wanted to know what chicken pox was. I pointed to all the red spots on his body, and I told him that he was going to start growing feathers from them, and he was going to turn into a chicken. Well, he started crying and ran to my mother, who told him that he wasn't going to turn into a chicken. But, I whisper that he was, and he'd start wailing all over again. See, that's what older brothers are for.

I remember my baby siblings having chicken-pox... they were completely covered from head to toe. My mom and I would bath them (can't remember what we added to the bath water), then we'd dab every pox on their bodies with cream. They really got them bad.

Ya know, this is really sad, but I don't have a favorite memory of my brother. He was almost 6 years older, and it was like we lived in different worlds. We still do. I don't remember playing together much. I think we went sled riding once? We were never in the same school at the same time. Don't ever remember getting a birthday card from him (or sending him one either.) I've enjoyed your stories, though.

Standing in the front yard in the blazing sun with my 2 older sisters (baby brother wasn't born yet) .. eating watermelon and having a seed-spitting contest.

Also, going with sisters and friends through the irrigation ditches to cool off in the summer.

Being at the beach with sisters and brother near a place called Sea Island. My brother was the sweetest little boy, and I loved taking care of him. At age 3 or 4, he would sing all the words to "Catch A Falling Star" by Perry Como. He used to be a vocalist in a band with his friends, and still has a great voice.

good memory of my brother and niece -staying at my sisters home for a weekend '
there was a massive quarry not far away and of course we played near it -my bro got a old box and we had some rope
put my niece in it and lowered her down the cliff face -omg makes me shudder to think if that rope broke'
always in mischief us 3 --

I think it was about 10 years ago or maybe less that my brother and I went to a Slovak Festival at the school he went to high school at in his younger days, of course. We had a good time having traditional food and looking at all the slovak things they had there and having a couple of beers.

I am not close to any of my siblings (that are left) now. I had a sister 5 years younger than me and we used to go to music (rock) concerts at New Years time. We had some great times. I still miss her (she was the only one that lived with me for a time).

Oh yes! The immense pride I felt watching my elder brother swinging through the treetops, not caring a fig about the 200ft drop, and then there were my two sisters, who always sat serenely on that overhanging rock, eating their bananas and picking fleas off each other. Sorry, I have to go, Dad's beating his chest vigourously, it must be time for bed. 😊

My older brother was 13yrs old when I was born,so the only memories of my young years with him was that he told me what to do and I listened and obeyed. My sister is 2yrs older than me and is a sweetheart.
She never stood up for herself if someone bothered her. When she would tell me what happened I would go and handle the situation. I remember so vividly when the girl who lived next door to us hit my sister. As soon as my sister told me I went outside and cracked that girl so hard and she never bothered my sister again. It was about that time that my friends called me a little Pistol.

This weekend being Mother's Day tomorrow, I recall taking my brother (7 yrs. younger than me) to the department store downtown to choose a gift for Mom. We only had a couple of dollars, but back then, they sold fake cultured pearl necklaces for $1.00. That's what we bought - and Mom put them on right away and wore them the entire day.

Have a baby sister who is the firecracker in our family! :)

Too many great memories of my late sister to pick a favorite.

One that sort of stands out: She baked cookies for The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. She was known to the concert promoter because of her activities as a fan club president for a few acts.

We went backstage at Orchestra Hall, and had a great time hearing their stores in their cramped dressing room as we ate the cookies. Their amazing opening act, Inman & Ira, signed my album. I still have it!

I miss my sister, terribly.......

Was it oatmeal (added to the water)?
I've heard many people did that, as it supposedly made the chicken pox less itchy.

Gosh, Janice, you may be right. Been so long now I just don't remember, but I do recall mom doctored-up the bathwater with something.

When I was in a bicycle accident where I got hit by a car, my brother bought me a new bicycle since mine was totalled.

A year ago last Christmas, I asked my brother if he would bring his trumpet up to play some Christmas carols with me so we could make my parents Christmas a nice one. They used to go to Florida for 6 months of the year ( 30 yrs.) so we never saw them at Christmas. This was the first time we had a chance to spend Christmas with them so I decorated their house, put up a tree and made a Christmas dinner like my mom used to including crackers.

After we finished cleaning up, we played Christmas carols and my parents beamed with excitement. My dad started singing but realized he was singing alone so got up, went to his piano bench and got out carol lyrics so we could all sing with him.

It was bittersweet and their last Christmas at home. My brother hadn’t played in years so it was extra special that he put in the effort. I greatly appreciated it. ❤️

My only sibling was my brother. He was 15 years older than me, had Down's Syndrome, and was institutionalized before I was born. When I was 16, we went to visit him and I met a boy there (Puppy-love at first sight). I got a picture of this new love and had it proudly displayed on the end table in our motel room. It disappeared! I was so upset. My mother swore she didn't take it. My brother denied all knowledge of its disappearance.

I opened, closed, and reopened every drawer and suitcase, while my brother sat there, straight-faced. Suddenly, he burst into giggles, reached under the mattress, grabbed the photo and ran. I chased him over the bed repeatedly, while he just laughed and laughed. I didn't laugh at the time, but it turned out to be one of my favorite memories.

The little stinker! :)
