What is a lesson that took you too long to learn?

Not to lend money to so called friends.
I lost thousands over the years, lending to people and never being paid back.
One day I said no more.
It has been at least 20 years since I have lent anyone my money.
These days I may give someone money, not expecting it back.

I learned over the years that no matter what help you give people they will still turn against you.
That's my experience too sadly.... :(..and unbelievably it's taken me until now in my 60's to realise that despite all I do for people there are still backstabbers amongst them, and in fact sometimes it seems the more you do for people the less you're thought of...... so now with the exception of my own daughter, I will no longer do anything for anyone unless it suits ME

This wasn't a lesson that took a long time to learn. Being a manager meant being in charge, the head honcho. But as a very wise regional manager once said, "Don't try to be the big fish in a small puddle, on the contrary, work hard and be humble." That mantra paid dividends, I gained trust, esteem and respect.

This is My Life. It is My Story. The people who somehow fell by the wayside are characters in My Story. Not meaning to say Life is only about me; trying--badly--to say my life should have carried on better despite all the loss.
I've heard it said that we should play the leading role in our own lives — not just a bit part, and that we're not here to live up to the expectations of others.

Every lesson I learned came at its appointed time and place
