What Is It? - #42

It looks like a ball stretcher :giggle::lofl::lofl:

50 shades of grey instrument ??????????

It looks like something Madam Lash has in her rooms hey Phants

You guys are BAD!

As usual, although the more ... creative ... among us can come up with some novel applications, those are not its designed function.

Good guesses, though!

Device for removing lids from preserves jars?

Exersize / muscle building apparatus ?

Cup holder? Fancy model.

Is it winding a coil/spring?

No, nope, and uhn-uhn.

It isn't winding the coil spring, Michael.

MMmmmmmmmmm. Looks a bit like a small pipe bender so..

Is it for bending something into shape, or to an angle?

... question for when you relent. Are they two rings or is one a handle?

Kinda reminds me of a lawnmower starter. Hold on to the part with the 2 rings and pull and that coil at the other end would unwind. Not sure what it does though.

No, it doesn't bend anything.

I'll let you know when I'm ready to relent. :devilish:

They are two rings.

Interesting thought. But it isn't a lawnmower starter - the first gas mower wasn't produced until 1919, and this puppy was made in 1903.

Does one of those rings hold a ball?? I'm thinking a catapult type thing........cuz I can't think of anything else. :saywhat:

Something for an automobile???

Nope.

Is it an arm muscle builder?

No, but that's a neat idea!

I think when you pull down the whatchamacallit it causes the thingamajig to turn the dohickey which in turn releases the spring loaded gobstopper.

Technically you're right ...

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winna !!!

Anne has correctly deduced that this is a catapult or ball-tosser ... before clay pigeons or targets were invented, sport shooters used glass balls for target practice.

The ball was placed in this catapult and the spring-loaded arm would be pulled back with human power applied to the second ring, throwing the ball into the air.

CONGRATS to ANNE for her clever answer, and as always thank you all for your neat-o guesses!

Well, I'll be.......it just looked like it could spring back & toss something. lucky guess, then....Thanks, Phil, for the fun!!!! :D

"Interesting thought. But it isn't a lawnmower starter - the first gas mower wasn't produced until 1919, and this puppy was made in 1903."

That's only natural. I wouldn't want to produce a mower unless I knew I had something to start it with.
