What is the Best advice you've been given?

StarSong you're not alone. We've all been on both sides of that fence. Take care and GOD Bless.
???
Thank you for this, but I'm a bit mystified about why you singled me out for that tag line.
Do I seem like I need particular care or blessings? Not that I'm averse to receiving either, but this isn't the first time you've said that to me on SF.

Well now it's quite obvious that you feel I must be deriding you in some strange (At least to me) way and I never meant any harm to you here and on the other thread about me trying to make some kind of weird point. I let your addressing my run on block paragraph issue because it is a TOS violation and you are more then welcome to report my faux pas to the site administrator. Also I promise you that after your request that I answer your question so I complied to your request and I will never respond to your comments or post as it appears unknowing to me that I must be seeking you out for GOD only knows what.

BTW: It also appears that I am singling you out which could be misconstrued as stalking and that's a very serious accusation. Now if my presence here is truly making you feel uncomfortable, nervous or frightened in any possible way then don't hesitate for one second to let me know and I promise you I will resign my membership on the forum. Thank you and take care.

Wow. Didn't see that coming. Based on your response here, it's pretty clear that you've taken a dislike to me and are hyper-sensitive to my reactions to your comments, thus the passive-aggressive niceties at the end of your post.

I didn't recall what the earlier incident was, only that you'd said previously said something like that which struck me as odd and out of context for the thread. Ditto this time.

People comment on comments all the time on SF (I can't be the only one here who thought of "Heard it Through the Grapevine" when seeing that line.) No big deal. At least not usually.

We call out walls of text because they can be difficult to read. Some bring up grammar and/or spelling errors, many call out factual errors, and we frequently request source information for assertions that seem dubious.

As far as I know, none of us considers those to be SF violations nor would it dawn on us to report them.

Trust me, I'm neither stalking you nor did I think you were stalking me.

Hi sir. Please take no offense but my best guess is you are either a cop or are a retired cop. The reason why I say that is because that is one of the four most important lectures drilled into rookies heads in their unofficial CYA class.

1. Never believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
2. If it isn't in writing it doesn't exist.
3. There are two sides to a story then there is the truth.
4. Never say something is, just say it appears to be.

As I said no offense meant.

Actually, I got it from the song Heard it Through the Grapevine. :)
People say "believe half of what you see
Son and none of what you hear"

The songwriters might have gotten it from the police, though.

Avoid credit cards.
With due respect, prior to covid19, those who know how to use credit cards wisely and responsibly would not heed this advise.

I used to avoid CCs until I found flyertalk forum which discussed the ways to make money on CCs. IOW, I made money from the banks, I have not paid a penny interest to any bank. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in this forum that knew this.

free hats, miles, points, cash back.... all gimmicks designed to get us to play their game. .. a game they win most of the time and we lose. there is nothing good about a credit card. Most people will carry a balance every month and pay interest. Most people will overspend and buy things they can't afford and get themselves in serious debt. The card companies know this. Which is why they work so hard to get us to play their game.

FYI... In 2005 I think it was, the credit card companies lobbied members of congress to get bankruptcy laws changed in favor of credit card companies (and not us). In other words congress was paid off, and now getting a chapter 7 bankruptcy is more difficult than ever for us, the people that need relief from debt and bad decisions we made (again the CC companies win, we lose).

If someone lacks self control, credit cards are a bad idea - much like an alcoholic having alcohol in his house. I have 4 credit cards. I've never been in debt, never paid any interest & don't carry a balance every month. I'm able to take advantage of things on sale & it's convenient to shop online without having to drive somewhere for everything.

There are ways to spend $ artificially to meet the minimum spend requirements of CCs to earn the bonuses. I didn't bother with free liters of soda, watermelon or DVD movies Walmart offered 🤭 but I said yes to $500 or more cash back (tax free since they were considered discounts) with minimum spend I knew I could meet. I'm not trying to convince you or anyone, I'm just saying many enjoyed the perks from banks who are considered predators. For once, some people beat them at their own game. Just sayin...

The problem with playing the credit card game is that most intend to do as some have written above, but enough fail to do so that the lending institutions come out on the winning end.

Which brings to mind another excellent piece of advice I was given. This one was apropos of casino come-ons, bank come-ons, deals too good to be true, and other s of that ilk.

My father used to say, "They don't build the canneries for the benefit of the fish."

If it were not to millions of people who just pay the minimum amount on their CC balance, a small percentage of us will not enjoy the perks the banks hand to us. There is a wealth of info on www that we can learn from.
