What is the first thing you remember ever seeing on television?

The first thing I ever remember seeing is Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Soupy Sales is my earliest recollection. I remember the day I first saw The Flintstones. A friend invited me to her house to watch it and for some reason in my young little brain I thought it was going to be a western.

I must have been really little because I was standing in a crib or playpen...but I remember "Flipper".

The first kid show? Mickey Mouse Club, first. Romper Room. Howdy Doody. Ding Dong School but Kulka, Fran, & Ollie, probably #2. That came on in the evening if I recall and I used to fall asleep quite early so I didn't get to see it often.

Besides Romper Room and Kaptain Kangeroo I vividly remember going to someone's house with my mother and The Edge of Night was coming on. I was fascinated with the fact that the edge of the black night (only black & white TVs then) was crossing the screen as it turned from day's white to night's black.

I remember watching the test pattern a lot. I was a night owl, even back then. :joke:

th

Remember when they used to play the National Anthem just before TV closed down for the night? :)

My family only lived a few houses down from my Aunt and Uncle who were the first to get a TV set. Once a week we would all go to their house and watch Jack Benny. They had a little tiny TV set, the screen was just a small square. As a kid I didn't much care for Jack Benny. A few years later we got a TV then I could enjoy all those kiddie shows. Ding Dong School, Howdy Doody, and Winky Dink were a few of my first favorites. Later came Mickey Mouse Club and many others.

I was 19 when my folks bought the first TV. I really didn't have much interest in it. I almost never watched it until I got married at age 25.

I remember seeing the film Stage Coach with John Wayne, just seen it was made in 1939 so hasten to add it was an old film by the time I saw it !

The one show that really sticks out in my mind for some reason was the Bishop Sheen program. He'd come out, swirl his cape around to sit down and I thought he was the Devil. He was pretty intense looking.... I used to call it "The Devil Show".

Other than that, I can remember the Harlem Globetrotters on tv and the usual kiddy shows.

The first color TV I remember seeing was in the window of an appliance store. Everyone was standing around the window oohing and aahing. it was showing a baseball game and I remember how the colors were "off" the images.....the bright green field with little green men running around with their red uniforms running right beside them. My grandmother bought some sort of a "color wheel" that you pointed at the screen and it was supposed to turn your tv into a color tv. It didn't.

Wow-some of you are VERY young LOL! I used to watch the Friday Night Fights with my dad-"brought to you by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer". Crusader Rabbit, Winky Dink, I Love Lucy,Mickey Mouse Club, Topper.

1946 A prize fight from Madison Square Garden in New York on a tiny 9 inch TV with both fighters in silhouette.
