What is the longest time you've kept your car?

I've had my '99 Ford truck since 2003. It is worth zero dollars according to Kelly Blue book, but it's worth-it to me to just fix it when it breaks.

I'm thinking of giving it a paint job....a cheap paint job.

I bought my first vehicle in 1965, a 51 chevrolet 5 window 1/2 ton pickup from my grandads estate......... still have it, he bought it new.
Bought a new Ford 3/4 ton supercab diesel in 1985.......... still have it too, and both are licensed and run although the 51 is due for a major freshen up.
May hang onto things too long lol

I had a 1981 Ford F100 for 17 years. We still have a 2002 Ford Explorer we bought in August of 2001 So have had it for 16 years and still going. I sold my 2003 Ford F150 last year because it was a standard shift and my bad knee couldn't take it any longer. I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger with auto transmission to take its place.

You people who have owned or now own a Toyota, Honda, Mazda or Nissan are now realizing that they are the most trouble-free autos made.

I have owned 33 cars since 1952, so I know something about the subject!

HiDesetHal

WOW, you've owned 33 cars. They don't seem to last you very long. You should buy a Ford.:playful:

Hmmm, 33 cars in 65 years. That's less than 2 years per car. You definitely need a Ford.

Actually....no. According to CR as of Sept 2017, the top four (in order) are Toyota, Lexus, Kia, and BMW. Honda is 9th, Nissan 11th, Mazda 12th.

Longest we've kept a car: 14 yrs, a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. But they are not durable cars the way Toyota and Honda are. The Santa Fe was kept in top mechanical condition, had only 88K, and literally fell apart after that mark. Needed over $5K of repairs on two major components so out it went.

My husband has had his vehicle the longest...it's a VW type 2 Camper Van which was registered new in 1972..he bought it in the mid 80's... and renovated the whole thing, every spring bolt, engine, interior, furnishings, respray... etc......so essentially it's the same van lol... but it's 45 years old...and he's owned it for 32 years and it's still going strong...

25 years and counting. Bought my 1993 Toyota pickup on Halloween 1992 and just renewed the registration for another year. It has close to 144,000 miles and still running good (3L V6).

I know this isn't what you meant, but...
I have a '53 pickup that I bought in '88. I put a V8 in it. The engine is worth more than the truck. It hasn't run in about 15 years. I lost some parts during a move and cost of the parts irritates me to no end.

We have a Toyota Corolla that is 17 years old. It could still go on for several years yet but a recent accident when our GD was driving it means it will soon be written off. The damage is minor but the insurance company will not cover it because the car is worth less than the damage. Our 'new' car, a Toyota corolla, is only 10 years old. We'll probably trade it in on a new car next year and it should be our last ever car.

I had mine for about 15 years. It was a gift from a friend. Suzuki Sidekick. I finally sold it to a Nam vet that needed a small car to hook on to his RV as he toodled around the states, and I bought a van.
