What is the Point of Life

There are things that has happened in my life that were beyond my control. I know without a doubt there is a higher power greater than myself - thank goodness
I've heard it said in church "If we say there's a God, then there's a God, if we say there is no God there is no God", (both heretical statements I'd have thought), and you'd be in agreement with the minister in at least one case!

The "point of life" is to make heartfelt, mindful, moral choices and our lives then shape themselves around those choices.

There will be natural consequences for wrong choices and benefits for the right choices for the here and now and for the beyond.
Money and power can disappear but character and personal integrity is secure. No one can take that from you.

We all have a different story. Every choice to open the door on the left or right leads you to a different story, a different life.

Like Ladybj said, "some things are beyond our control". That's because there are good and evil forces with their own plans...One for us and one against us...because there can't be choices without that.

And sometimes our own perspective, glass half full or half empty, alters our story.

It seems like we each have our own ideas about what the point of life is. Some lean more to the way I think, while others, well, they're worth considering too. One never knows. In the end though it feels like just one more thing that we never are going to agree upon. Maybe the point of life is to pit us against each other and may the best view win? Pointed or pointless, it's a question as old as time and that goes back a ways, in my opinion. But someone, I'm sure, will disagree with that.

Whatever you think the point of life might be, that's just as unable to be proven as any other idea, mine included. Fact is, I'm alive and I'm pretty happy about it even if I'm not quite sure of the point of it all or if there even is, or needs to be one.

We have to look at the thread for what it's intended for...to trigger thinking. It can only be a discussion, not a debate because proof is non-existent. I look at it as sharing ideas and beliefs of what life's point is without requiring proof. To view it as a debate and expecting proof of the unprovable breeds unnecessary hostility aka "pitting us against each other". It's just a thread of streaming consciousness in a group setting.

No, it's not just like humans....who have a consciousness and complexity far removed from ants and other beasts.

But okie-dokie. dude.
Go and pet a bear cub with the mama around and see how that works out for you. All we have over other animals is the arrogance to think we're special. But okie- dokie dude

John Adams wrote this to his son, John Quincy Adams,
while observing his daughters blowing soap bubbles with his pipe...

"They fill the air of the room with their bubbles, their air balloons, which roll and shine reflecting the light of the fire and candles, and are very beautiful. There can be no more perfect emblem of the physical and political and theological scenes of human life.

Morality only is eternal. All the rest is balloon and bubble from the cradle to the grave."

I'm 75 and I sure don't have the answer to your question. I just take each day as it comes and enjoy life. Don't think we have to know everything and have answer to everything. Back in 1957 Johnny Cash sang, "I Guess Things Happen That Way" and you know he was right.

As a Christian I am a child of an eternal and infinite God and, as such, my own life is eternal and infinite. The "life" to which I think you're referring, Mitch, is just a prelude of sorts to that eternal life.

For those who believe that their current earthly existence is all there is, I don't know that there is any "point of life" other that whatever meaning they personally choose to ascribe to it. But for those who understand; who love the Lord and submit to His will, this time on earth is absolutely filled with purpose and with promise.

I pray that the Lord will open the eyes of those who have not yet discovered this. I am a Christian as well and I believe that God made our existential symbiotic relationship with the cosmos, also, God's creation which we are a part of. Thus, being part of this ether, or macrocosm, what we and our lives by our volition influences this existence that we are a part of as a whole. Each individual, by efforts of their conscious deeds affects all living creatures, human, flora and fauna whether we are aware of it or not. You don't have to be aware of your influence to have influence.

I was baptized in 2008. Now, I know why I am here. I pray the same for everyone.
