Interesting -- but does this also apply when you're dealing with youth, or with people you care about? There are times when I feel I truly have to say something, regardless of how uncomfortable the consequences. For example, in my previous work, I had to speak to people very frankly about their drug and alcohol addictions, or about untreated mental health issues. It was hard!! And people can be extremely rude when you confront them about something so personal. Nonetheless, when I felt it was appropriate, I spoke what I perceived to be the truth. On occasion, hearing something honest about oneself made an enormous difference in a person's life. I'm not convinced that keeping silent would have been kind or wise.
