What is your favorite vacation spot?

Outside of the usual theme parks, etc, what is your favorite vacation spot?

For me, it's Gettysburg National Military Park. I'm a Civil War nut. I love going to Gettysburg. There are old photos of the dead, after the battle. It really gets to me when I stand over the exact spot where a soldier gave up his life. To be honest, I don't know if I could do what they did. The place fills me with awe.

We have traveled many times....Mostly after our kids were out of College....Now we have a cottage in the South...
Anyway, We traveled out of the country.. .In the USA, Hawaii, Florida (many times) Around the whole State....
Tennessee with our family and rented a home, No. Carolina near the Ocean with our family, Virginia with our family,
Louisiana where my son got married to his wife....We did live in Ohio, not my favorite State...Ocean City, NJ...
My favorite was St. Lucia...in the Caribbean....We did go to every State on the East Coast.....
Not much in the middle States...We also went to Canada a couple of times....
So now we stay put.....

Fuzzybuddy, Many years ago I visited Gettysburg National Military Park and even then, I thought it was very commercialised. This is a fate that has befallen many popular historical sites.

My favourite spot? I probably haven't been there yet, but as for my favourite so far...
City - Lisbon and district

My Brother went to that college in Montpeiler…..We went there to see him graduate...Many years ago....

Cities. I love visiting museums. Fave city is St. Louis -- the Central West End specifically. For nature get-aways, the mountains or rocky ocean headlands like Mendocino in my profile pic.

Between the Federal and State governments, Gettysburg has been somewhat returned more to what it was back prior to the commercialization years. Several souvenir and antique shops have been closed and there are less tour operators drumming up business.

The new museum is a real treasure to tour. A lot of old uniforms, relics, rifles, gear that was used by the soldiers and so much more are all on display in the museum. It kind of brings history back to life. It’s a great place to visit for anyone interested in the Civil War.

On certain weekends, the Federal Parks Bureau has programs on the battlefield with guides that explain the significance of that area. The Peach Field, Devils Den, Big and Little Roundtop, Picketts Charge and the Wheatfield are all interesting and very crucial sites during that era.

May sound strange, but my backyard in Missouri. Many a happy time spent there with family and friends.

For an after party for her dad's 80th birthday, my wife hired a band and invited everyone from the original party to come to the house, man it was packed. The things she works out on a dime, never ceases to amaze me. How'd I'd ever get so blessed?

RV camping & ATVing in the mountains of Colorado.

Going to Michigan ATV ride & RV camping.
Oldest son lives in Michigan , so trip happens more often than going out west.
We love Colorado and Michigan and have a lot of history in both states. (Colorado Springs and Holland)
