With Thanksgiving upon Americans, I was wondering if anyone had winter squash as a traditional side dish like it was a in my family. My maternal grandmother always said "It isn't Thanksgiving unless there's squash." I like it too, and think I've tried about every variety I could find. I've settled on Delicata as my current fave with Kabocha and Hubbard runners-up. How about you?

Delicious baked!

We always used the big blue hubbard squash for pies and as a savory side dish. I remember helping my grandmother cut them up with an old dull ax and then roasting the pieces in the oven, what an ordeal.

These days I use butternut or acorn mainly because it is easy and yields a manageable amount of squash for my one person household.

For Winter squash I'd like the buttercup squash over the ones listed in the poll.
