I am using the word "enlightenment" to refer to more of a spiritual experience or state, rather than a revised view of topics, situations, or social matters.
To some it may be spiritual nonsense because they have never experienced it. Yet to others it is the pinnacle of all human experiences.
The basis or foundation underlying the experience is that there is a higher self that is the part of you that is unencumbered by ego.
It’s the non-material dimension of you (some call it a soul or spirit) that's part of a larger cosmic consciousness, or at least a celestial whole.
The experience of meditation can lead one to a stillness and a sanctuary where the ripples in the pond created by thinking, settle into a placid and calm inner dimension of existence where you let go of everything that is not in the moment. There is a bliss of inner peace that settles over you, almost as an out-of-body experience, filled with deep contentment. Perhaps you finally understand the true nature of what you are and your oneness with something beyond yourself.
It is claimed that becoming enlightened is like entering into a whole new realm that begins to change you from the inside out. It begins to change your values and priorities. It changes your perception of what's around you. It changes your mindset, your moods, your inner peace, how you face challenges, and gives you new direction in life. You are now on a different quest or path that is so different from the one that has been imprinted on your brain by our culture and society.
What are your views or experiences?
I suspect that most of these encounters are largely interpreted by one's belief system, meaning that the experience may be strikingly similar to those reported by others, but one may view it as a divine experience, and yet another as a oneness with the cosmos. Perhaps the actual experience is more important than the label we put on it.
