What Kind of Gift Would You Buy?

Been There

I met a woman at a New Year Eve’s party and we started dating just a few month ago. She has breast cancer and is receiving treatment for it. Her Oncologist gave her a very good chance for a complete recovery. Her birthday is June 14, Flag Day.

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe a TV for her kitchen. She has mentioned she would like to have one there. I could install it. I thought maybe an under counter mount. Is $350 too much to spend on someone who I only dated 5 times? I also stayed with her all day while she was in the hospital for having a TIA.

I'll tell you a birthday gift I've given on more than one occasion, and it's always been received with genuine appreciation.

Using the person's birthday, look up on the Billboard charts the top 20 songs from the year and the week they were born and burn them a cd.

It's personal, it's inexpensive, and it's singular. No one else has that but the person you burned it for.

How romantic Dave! ❤️

For me, the song would be "Ghostriders in the Sky" not very romantic.

Do you think it is?

Will she think it is?

Seems kind of odd to me to be mentioning a T V in her kitchen to someone met at a New Years eve. party. 5 dates & time spent all day at the hospital isn't really a lot of time together.

It's your money & time spent installing a T V it's ultimately your choice.

How nice and thoughtful of you to consider giving her such a gift. I will say, however, my son got a 32 inch Roku T.V. from Walmart for $127 a few months ago and the picture is beautiful. So perhaps paying $350 for a T.V. (especially if it's smaller) for her kitchen might be a bit much. Other than that, I agree with what @Pinky replied (reply #4).

I think that is a bit much for the short time you've been dating. It would make me uncomfortable.
Don't let her situation influence you to rush in.
Or, listen to @Pinky . 😊

I think a tv is way too much. I think anything that costs $350 is way too much for such a new involvement.

@Dave03 has the best idea if you feel a gift is that important.

Spending a big amount of money too soon in a relationship shows insecurity to me —- sorry but it does. I know she has cancer, but if she is unhappy with anything less, there’s a message there, too.

The best thing you can do, if you really think you like her, is to just BE THERE.

I have done this before and I can do it for her also. Good idea as a second gift. Thanks.

I like this lady and she shows me respect and knows that I am not some lounge lizard. I also respect her and I can tell she hasn't been with many other men. Her first duty is to her grandson and I like that. She is so nice and doesn't get overly excited when tings go wrong. She does worry about her cancer, but who wouldn't? The doctor seems to be very optimistic. I haven't met him or her yet, but I will on Friday at her next appointment.

She is doing much better and there was no damage from the TIA. Her vitals are good and her cancer has not grown. Her and I seem to click. She enjoys some of the things I like and I enjoy some of the things she likes. I also get along really well with her grandson and we do things together, which I don't do as a favor to her or to get on her good side. I just like the boy and he seems to have his head screwed on straight.

He's a nice kid learning his way through life with no male guidance. I am trying to supply him with some of that, but it doesn't come easy for me. My grandfather was my male guidance and I haven't been around kids much, but I ask other parents about what are some of the things I should be doing. I hope my relationship with Mother and grandson stay on track.

BTW, I did have one really special woman in my life that I thought we were going to be married, but she became ill for 2 years and died. That's my kind of luck. I am going to buy the the tv for under the counter and I will be able to install it.

I'm sure she'll love it. 🤗
