What Live Bands Have You Seen in Your Lifetime?

What live bands did you see?
Not nearly so many as you. Bands I can remember, maybe not all bands really but my list is short can't leave a lot off:

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Crosby Stills and Nash (no Young unfortunately)
Clifton Chenier and his band, don't recall the name of it.
Willie Nelson and support
Pete Seagar and Arlo Guthrie, just the two of them.
Jo-El Sonnier and his band
Sweet Emma and her Preservation Hall Band
Pete Fountain and his Half Fast Walking Club
Vin Bruce and his band
Dizzy Gillespie and his band

Dizzy had to have been my favorite, Willie Nelson a close second. All were great experiences

My favourite concerts were :
- Peter Gabriel - he did music from So, Melt, and Shaking the Tree
- Pink Floyd - music from The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and a bit of Animals - not only did it sound fantastic , the stage show was mesmerizing
- Robbie Robertson - saw this at a really fancy place. It was a black tie event but my friend never told me. We wore jeans and tv shirts and everyone around us was dressed to the 9’s. It was a bit embarrassing
- Chicago - they played outside at Ontario Place and sounded incredible echoing off the amphitheater . They were a great band who included brass instruments. Saxophones 🎷, trumpets 🎺 and trombones.
- Madonna - she did music from her immaculate album - Her music included singing and dancing which was outstanding.
Rumours were out that she lip synced while dancing but with this show, I was very close to the stage and she was singing and dancing throughout the entire show. Singing why working out isn’t easy and she nailed it. She was very muscular.
- Supertramp was crazy good. I really enjoyed the saxophone solos.
-Santana - loved the rhythmic guitar and the Latin vibe
- The talking Heads were really good and so was the blue man group. They were super entertaining and a group I’d forgotten about
- Chuck Mangeoni concert was sublime
The concert was outside and started before sunset. There’s something magical about a guy with long hair playing romantic ballads on a flugelhorn. It had sex appeal
- the Eurythmics - I truly love a great vocalist and Annie Lennox has an amazing set of pipes. The concert was very memorable
- Rush - these guys can really play instruments well. Their concerns were better than their albums
- The Guess Who - was one of the first bands I ever saw. It was in my early teens. A time when I had my first crush so These Eyes was lovely and heartbreaking at the same time 💔 One of my school teachers played with them
-Fleetwood Mac was just priceless
- Jeff Beck - I can get lost listening to that guy play guitar

Most of these concerts I really enjoyed; some, not as much

Shows I wasn’t as fond of :
Deep Purple - I think I got too high
Bay City Rollers - they were a front band
The Doors - the concert was dark and spooky for me
April Wine were 🫤 meh! Lol

Artists I would have loved to have seen :

Led Zeppelin
Celine Dion
Christine Aguilera
Adele
The Beatles
Chopin lol

Dizzy Gillespie and his band would have been a real treat to see. His puffy cheeks was his signature look. I love a great instrumentalist

1976... I'd forgot about that one at the fair, when I ended up in the back of the stage after the concerts and found myself amongst the after party of all the bands that has participated in the show.

It wasn't popular bands but ended up being part of their jam session after someone asked me if I played an instrument. It was the best two hours of my 16 years.

That sounds like a really good birthday. It’s nice to have to considerate friends. I had some really good friends in my earlier years. It’s priceless stuff
From my teens on i generally had good friends, usually small groups, tho some of them lasted for decades. One of my two best friends from High School and i parted ways in our mid 20's, different life paths.

But she found me on FB around 2007 or so. Life had helped her become her better self and it was almost like no time had passed. We communicated online and thru phone calls till she died in August 2021. I had hoped we'd see each other in person one more time.

I was never much of a concert goer. If I went to a concert it was at the behest of someone else.
I listen to music as a kind of meditative thing. usually when I'm doing some kind of work like drawing or sketching.

I've seen John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Fish (former lead singer for 1980's band Marillion).

Those are the bigger names.

I've seen The Fab Faux Beatles Tribute band.

I once saw some guy who's band did Billy Joel and Elton John songs. That was one of my favorite shows because those songs are better done live.

I saw Australian Pink Floyd. Didn't care much for them. They played too many of the songs I don't care for.

I attended a performance of Riverdance.

I attended a performance of Mary Poppins as a live musical. That's a good show.

Every concert I attended was held in a small venue. John Denver was in a professional hockey arena but he had a way to make the concert feel small and more intimate.
I would have liked to have seen Riverdance live. The closest I got was seeing them on television but even that was great.

Me too. Somehow I lucked out in the friends department. I had the best friends ever. They were fun, adventurous, entertaining and generous. If it weren’t for friends, I would not have seen all these concerts I had. There was an entire group of us that all hung out together so there was always something to do and a lot of parties.

I’ve was really close to an in-law. For years we wrote back and forth and had a great relationship. Then we had an argument and stopped talking for about 4 years. Now we are back to writing each other again. It’s her birthday today and I sent her an email wishing her Happy Birthday. She was so happy.
Friends are good to have.

@PeppermintPatty , that's such an impressive list! Literally ALL of those bands would be on my "to die for" must see list!.

I've seen: The Rose Garden,The Birds, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabboth, The Almond brothers, Cactus, Black Oak Arkansas, Foghat, Bob Segar,Red beans & Rice, Three Dog Night, Leon Russel, Horis Bandersnatch,Focus, Johnny Lee, Desert Rose Band, Alan Jackson, The Kendalls, Willy Nelson,

Santana and Pat Benatar in the "old days". More recently, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac, Culture Club, U2, Toto, Duran Duran & Chic (3 times), Journey, New Order, Depeche Mode, the Pet Shop Boys, the B-52s, When In Rome, Animotion, Wang Chung, Berlin and Book of Love.

Coincidentally, we will be seeing Pat Benatar and her guitarist and husband, Neil Gerardo, at the end of August. She still sounds just as great as she did in the 70's and 80's. When I saw her in the early 80's, she sang one song and collapsed on stage and all I got was a t-shirt. She owes me a full set!

Leaving home at 16 had its advantages. When I was younger, I had a lot of friends. Living close to Toronto offered many places to see live bands : The CNE, Ontario Place, The Toronto Hockey Arena, Canadas Wonderland and I literally saw hundreds of them.

Did I remember all of these? No! I had to look up popular bands from those decades. Some jazz bands and certain pop singers I’ve probably forgotten about but writing out this list brought back a lot of happy memories. Some memories were with my brother who I lost far too early in life but I still have those wonderful memories.

Apparently music is the last memory the human brain hangs onto.

Some of these bands were front bands for the bands I chose to see

I sound like a groupie but I can assure you that I wasn’t.

What live bands did you see? Any particular favourites?
Wow, you have quite the lineup! We've seen some of the same bands but I would have loved to have seen all the bands you've seen!
So a vaguely posed music thread to generate conversation.

Are older threads over last couple years with same essential subject. The last such thread was only answered directly by those that have seen a few bands since such tends to be easy to recall, while those that have seen many bands almost never keep a log. Even a decade later unlikely to recall much. And yeah have likely seen more classic rock era bands than any other members because of where I've lived and when.
There may have been older threads posted about the same topic, but there are new members here that weren't part of those threads. Topics are resurrected all the time. For me, it is fascinating to hear about all the bands @PeppermintPatty has seen.

~Azymuth (a Brazilian Jazz band, twice)
~Chico Hamilton & band
~Earth, Wind & Fire w/Ramsey Lewis
~Joe Bataan & his Latin band
~Grover Washington, Jr. & band
~Lionel Hampton & band
~Mandrill
~Maze f/Frankie Beverly (3 times)
~Tito Puente & band

I've seen several other acts (which I listed in another thread) but for this post I did not include singers and singing groups who use back up musicians.
