I agree that trust is the foundation. Without trust and honesty, there is nothing.

I will agree that trust is a big item with having a good relationship. However, how do you get trust? The old adage is “Trust, but verify.”

That's how you get it. In the beginning you verify. I have no need to repeatedly verify people who have proven their trustworthiness over time and innumerable situations.

I've found "trust but verify" is mostly used when those who want to be trusted have either shown themselves untrustworthy in earlier situations or are, as yet, unproven.
