What season do you most like to put up decorations.

Do you have a favorite season that you like to decorate for. Or do you still even decorate. I dont do as much as I used to but I dont think I will ever totally give it up. I did cut back when the husband was sick but Im back now. :D

Feywons thread made me think about how Fall is fast approaching. Fall is my very most favorite season to decorate. Christmas is second.
Its finally cooling off and those are my colors. One of the things I like most is that I can stretch my decorating from September thru November.
I start with basic Fall and in October I add witches and pumpkins. In November I turn the pumpkins faces around, pack the witches away and add turkeys. Thankfully I have a stash of turkeys. Its harder than hell to find Thanksgiving decorations now a days.

I like to decorate for Christmas too but you basically only get the month of December. My house feels so nekid when I start taking stuff down.
Its just me so sometimes I leave things up till I feel like undecorating. Theres no holiday in January . I do put my snowmen out but theyre not as festive. I know some people start decorating for Christmas in October but that just feels wrong to me.

I change small things around the house for seasons. Right now is late summer so sunflowers on my door wreath and light earthy colors in my candles and things. I'll do some fall deco at the end of Sept and add more color as we get into late Oct with a few Halloween decorations on that week. Nothing very scary.
I'll probably put a tree up at Thanksgiving in one room just in case that ends up being Christmas with any family members. The rest of the house will be winter and ease into Christmas deco throughout December.
I'm done with any complicated decorating.

I have given my family all their favorite decorations from my home. My collection of "Dicken's Town & Village Houses" was badly desired and went to the one I knew would keep passing those on. I have went pretty blah over the last 4 years. Since my home is the smallest we don't have big family gatherings here, therefore the inspiration has poofed.

Ditto.... exactly the same time frame that I've lost interest but not for the same reason

I decorate fully for Christmas. It’s my favorite time of the year. Living Room, kitchen, guest bathroom all get a full makeover, as well as front porch and door wreath. If we have a guest staying during the Christmas season, I make sure the guest room also has festive touches.

I add seasonal touches for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, like a figurine on my kitchen window ledge, small adornments in the living room, a seasonal dangly to my front door wreath. I change my decorative dishcloth for Spring, Summer, Fall, and of course Christmas.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart, and I am finding these replies very interesting.

I no longer decorate other than a sign on my apartment door because my place is so small. There's just no room. But when the kids were little I did a full decoration for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I had dozens of small, lit-up items for the Christmas village we'd set up, including fake snow.

It was just this year that I handed the bins of Christmas village items to my older daughter, who asked for them. She'll share them with my younger daughter. I was happy to see that they wanted to continue that tradition. That makes me think they have good memories of it. I hope.

I also handed off most of the Christmas ornaments. The kids and I would always have such a great time unwrapping them each year as we decorated the tree. Each one had a different story, as most people's do.

OK, now I'm getting tearful—so many poignant memories—so I'll end this here.

This is a great thread!

I decorate a few of my rooms for all the holidays too. When I was young we moved all the time.
Every time we moved I lost all my stuff. So I have no family stuff. Once I got on my own I started accumulating stuff.
Especially holiday stuff. Im getting old so Ive cut back just a little.

I do a lot of Christmas decorating but Ive streamlined it some so I dont spend as much time as I did when I was younger.
All my trees are already decorated except for the feather trees. I have alpine trees and other trees in several different heights.
Luckily I have a big house. I store my holiday hoards upstairs and bring them downstairs as needed.
My latest 3' alpine tree has a bunch of the husbands old fishing lures and red and white bobbers.
I was going to do rubber worms for tinsel but I found that them worms melt in the heat. So I ditched that idea. :D

I cant wait to decorate for Fall. I know I dont need any more stuff but Im still looking.
I need more redheaded witches for my Halloween collection. :D

Heres some alpine trees incase youre wondering.

Bah Humbug. I used to go all out for Xmas and Halloween. It was fun putting all that stuff up, but taking it all down and packing it away- not exactly thrilling. For Xmas I put the same 4 decorations, that go back in their boxes in 2 seconds.

I actually agree with you. Taking it all down and packing it away is not thrilling. Thats why almost all my trees stay decorated.
A while back I switched to Alpine trees. Theyre skinny so they dont take up much room. All I have to do is reach in and grab the trunk and carry them into the spare room. Next year I deal them out and it looks like I spent weeks decorating.

If you have small keepsakes and memorabilia they can make a fun tree. Gets them out where you can enjoy them and frees up space.
For example the husbands fishing lure tree. I dont fish so they would be in a closet someplace.

I enjoy the ‘brightness’ of Fall decorations when the weather gets dreary outside. … and then Christmas decor is just something that cheers me up.

So I continue to go thru the motions of bringing everything out of storage.
Every year I seem to set things up differently though.

I decorate less and less. I used to love to go to Pier1 Imports each year and pick up a few things to decorate. My favorite holidays are Christmas and Easter.
The cats do not like changes in the house and they would kill my Christmas tree, so the decorations are now minimal!🐈‍⬛🐈

The days of going all out for the holidays are long past. I still put up a small tree, a few lit ceramic trees, and some decorations around the house. If the spirit doesn't move me, I may skip the little tree this year. I've gone through my Christmas decorations and will be donating the majority of them in the fall.

My cats always liked a live tree, maybe because we all enjoyed it so much. I couldn't lay my hands on a picture of them sleeping under the tree but they claimed it the minute it went up.

I used to go all out for Christmas. I had more than a thousand Santas, from one almost life-sized to one carved from a grain of rice.

Getting them unpacked and distributed (most on the tree, the rest everywhere in the house) took at least two weeks. My late husband had a "fishin' tree" with fishing-themed ornaments, too.

Christmas towels, soap dispensers, dish towels, placemats, tablecloths, etc, had to be put out.

Outdoor decorations galore took time to get up.

After he died, I just lost the interest. I hung onto everything for a few years and then gave away or sold almost everything. I just kept about 20 things that had great sentimental value to me. I treasure them.

I have a 6' "pencil tree" that only has clear light, 3 dozen cardinals and snowflakes. There's a big cardinal on the top.
