What skills and/or abilities are magic to you?

Being able to open jars, bottles, cans etc. is becoming more and more of a challenge for me. I guess my hands aren't as strong as they used to be and/or they're making more stuff so kidproof that it's almost impossible to get things opened up.
If it wasn't for hubby I would probably ending up destroying some of the containers just trying to get the stuff out. LOL
Back in the day, my mother used to put bottle tops, and even some smaller jars into the gap between the farmhouse door and door frame, and just trap it enough to allow you to twist and break the seal.

Those old doors were tough enough to take the treatment, but a good idea I've discovered more recently is to break the air tight seal on a jam jar by tapping the metal top edge with a heavy table knife, (dull side), in a circular pattern, right around the circumference if necessary. It usually breaks the seal, so its easy to turn thereafter, though you can get a tool to grip the metal top, and allow more purchase too! (y) .

I will never, ever understand how electricity works. Lots of people have tried to explain it, but to no avail.

To me, it's magic.
Yup

That's me

Anything with a wire.......GZZZZZT!
I'm toast

...and electronics?
too tiny
too intricate

And to think I managed the engineering dept of an electronics firm

Guess that was MY 'magic'

I subscribe to a YouTube channel

Right now my oven is not working in my range. I'm going to give it a try.

Yeah, a guy on YouTube showed how to take a shortcut to repair a wash machine

Man...after I successfully repaired that ol' washer, I strutted around for a week

Visit the dollar store kitchen section. They have all kinds of gadgets designed to open jars easier. Get a grip on it.

I'll post a picture later of an opener that breaks the Vaccuum seal. It sits under the lid and you just lift it till you hear a pop. Ever wonder how they create that vacuum in each jar? It's done in a room where the pressure is less than the outside pressure.

I taught myself to adjust the gear shift on a bike. After four or five videos viewing. Some instructors know their stuff but they don't know how to teach. Some talk too fast and zip right through the important parts. Others take their time and keep the cameras on the important parts.

Boy, ain't that the truth.
I think some YouTubers just like to hear themselves talk.

The treasure is viewing one that cuts to the chase, knows what to show, and coincides with pertinent commentary on what's being shown.

Here's the picture of the opener that breaks the vacuum seal. It's an old timer so if you see one at a yard sale, pick it up. You just lift it and you hear a pop that the seal has been broken.
