What social stigma does society need to get over?

I think the stigma of men crying.
We are allowed to laugh when happy, why is it deemed "unmanly" to cry?
Actually I think a few decades ago you’d be right. Now more men aren’t afraid to cry.
We are saying it’s ok for men to cry but making fun of them at the same time claiming men aren’t being men anyone. We are all a bunch of hypocrites at times.

On occasion, I have cried with parents who I have told their child won’t be coming home anymore because he/she was killed in a vehicle accident that evening.

I also remember finding a 4 y/o little boy who wondered away from the family’s campsite and we found him face down in a creek about 200 yards from their campsite. It took us just over an hour to find the little boy because we didn’t have enough searchers and it was dark outside.

It breaks your heart when a child is killed or dies prematurely in a situation that never should have happened.

All of the above, plus the social stigma, especially for young people, of not being pencil thin. So many kids are being bullied and made fun of for being even a little overweight. It has led to dangerous eating disorders or worse.

I went to see an older friend at an assisted living complex yesterday. There are several buildings in the complex with different levels of service. They separate the low income bracket from the very well off bracket. I was amazed at the dining hall for the very well off people. They had real China and silver and sat to eat at mahogany tables. It looked like a 5 star restaurant. They also used linen napkins.

I thought to myself it’s a shame that even when we get old and are nearing the end of our life, cash is still king. Because I was there at dinner time, I was offered to stay and have dinner with my friend for $15. I was ready to leave anyway, but I considered eating just to check out the quality of their food. They had a chef preparing the meals.

The human race. Because everywhere you look we've done a great job of mucking it all up. If not the human race, religion then. By that we've justified way too much. But, maybe religion is just a characteristic of how well the human race has managed to get it all wrong. Eliminating the human race would go a long way towards righting a lot of wrongs. Is the human race a social phenomenon?

My hubby is very manly and yet I have seen him cry on many occasions. Men have feelings too.
Have you noticed that those who stigmatizes men are other men? And, those who stigmatize women are often other women? Such behavior has always surprised me. One would think that similar others could empathize better. But, empathy just is not a characteristic that is common in people. Probably because so many are insecure.

There are people out there that get great joy with stigmatizing other people. They have this mentality that it gives them a few moments of self satisfaction beating up on someone else. Making fun of someone else to make yourself look better in your eyes doesn’t mean the other person will think you are cool.

We had a young Trooper who thought making fun of other people was fun. I remember the day when an older Trooper mistakenly wore a pair of green socks to work because he thought it was St. Patrick’s Day, but he was off by 1 day. The young Trooper tried to make a fool of the other Trooper. The older Trooper told the young Trooper “Keep it up and you’re going to look damn silly walking around with a green sock shoved up your a$$.” That ended that.

I feel we for all the so called progress have made many steps backwards....

Some lower the bar on all everything......... instead of expecting a person to learn and be prepared for things in life.... this is a total disservice not wanting people to pursue knowledge and learn how to do things ... leaves them wide open to not knowing when they are taken advantage of,
we no longer seek how things really work instead there is an app or person to do that FOR you................... but seriously if a person is too naive to know things they never see when other s choice for them is NOT in their best interest.

Some protest against things....... but the reverse stereotyping is OK and encouraged where is the progress? That never made sense to me.

Some feel the need to label things and people like everyone is monolithic .... treating people as individuals is far better and less divisive.

I'm not sure getting over another social "stigma" is what we should be doing. Yes, we have made great strides in becoming a more inclusive society. But, for the most part, it's merely lip service. What we have is large institutions, like colleges, corporations, etc., which obey the laws in order not to be sued. There is a sizable minority, who is determined to chip away at those advancements.

Actually, I think this occurs because there are some who think they live the ideal life, so any variant is worthy only of scorn.

If you ask me, we‘ve dropped a few too many! Feel like wearing your pajamas to the store? Be my guest. While you’re at it, put on a T shirt with the F word on the front. And do feel free to drop the F bomb anytime, anywhere, and loudly. And be sure and wear the moniker Baby Daddy with pride. (I’m looking at you, Nick Canon!). I’m not sure there are any stigmas left.
