What song brings you to tears still when you hear it?

I am playing some music this afternoon. I decided to put on Tom Waits SwordFishTrombone. This reminded of a really powerful, and sad song titled "Soldier's Things".

LYRICS:

Davenports and kettle drums
And swallowtail coats
Tablecloths and patent-leather shoes
Bathing suits and bowling balls
And clarinets and rings
All this radio really needs is a fuse

A tinker, a tailor
A soldier's things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
Oh, and this one is for bravery
And this one is for me
And everything's a dollar
In this box

Cufflinks and hubcaps
Trophies and paperbacks
It's good transportation
But the brakes aren't so hot
Neckties and boxing gloves
This jackknife is rusted
You can pound that dent out on the hood

A tinker, a tailor
A soldier's things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
Oh, and this one is for bravery
Oh, and this one is for me
And everything's a dollar
In this box

Cilla Black was my absolute favorite female singer of the sixties.
Oh you are joking ?... you can't be serious ?.. there was so many much better female singers.. all the American female singers, and in the UK there was Petula Clark, Sandi Shaw, Lulu... Dusty Springfield.. and more.. all of them who could sing, and Cilla really couldn't.. she sang through her nose.... and from her throat rather than her diaphragm ...

I know of which I speak, my husband worked with her for 18 years....

Come on Holly, don't be horrible, each to their own

Why should I care who agrees with me? I didn't love the Beatles because everyone else did; I loved them because *I* loved them and I loved Cilla Black too. Same manager, Brian Epstein btw, which I'm sure you remember.
Cilla had a voice that could sandblast granite.

If I wanted to pick a female singer who could actually sing, it would be either Eva Cassidy, Linda Ronstadt or Karen Carpenter.
