I’ve been binge-watching the
Lost in Space rebooted series on
Netflix. Now the original series from the 1960’s was cornball and campy, not in the same class as it’s contemporary,
Star Trek (The Original Series). The series reboot, however, is vastly superior to the original, and while drawing from the 60’s series, redefines it in many ways.
The
Robot in the original series was always its main attraction to me; what kid
doesn’t love robots? The
Robot in the new rebooted series continues to be at the heart of it, but this time he wasn’t even constructed on planet Earth, but is rather an
alien robot. How cool is that?! He
looks alien, too, as if designed after the art of H.R. Giger, This
Robot is massive, powerful, and constructed from shape-shifting alien metals; he can even self-repair to a degree. There’s a bit of the
T-800 Terminator in him, although no facial features but only a faceplate of swirling colored lights. While you’re kept guessing about his loyalties, this
Robot is acquiring human emotions…and yes, he still does say, “
Danger, Will Robinson!”
So catch the new
Lost in Space, if you enjoy science fiction with a history!
