What was your favourite subject at school?

Me too..I have read anything and everything since I fist learned to read. Had my share of fiction in my younger days... but I have very little imagination, so Fiction Bores me.. my preference is always for Non-fiction
I have always felt that real life is so much more interesting that made up people.

I liked science best. In one school I had an excellent science teacher, he made the subject live.

When I started high school I asked for Spanish, so they gave me french. I have been twice to Quebec and that was it. I have visited 7 Spanish speaking countries plus Miami. Some of them multiple times.

I liked English/Lit
One class I hated

Wrote something on it a few years ago;

Sophomore year I had a task master of an English prof.
He wanted a poem.
So I gave him a poem.
I happened to be reading a James Bond novel in class when this poem leaped to the fore.
Only it was a bit short.
So I added my own words for length and to be able to say with a semi-serious face that I’d written it.
He asked me to stay after class, and expounded on how profound the words to that poem were
….right up to where Ian left off and I began,
or as he said (since he’d never read that crap) ‘right up to here, then you seem to lose the gist’
His index finger pointing to the first word of my submission.
I told him I got in a hurry right there cause I didn’t want to be late for class………….

He seemed to buy it.

That was my only English Lit highlight
Barely passed

I was a tremendous underachiever in all subjects

You Only Live Twice

Physics, geology, art, chemistry, and not necessarily in that order. Oh, and athletics.

I was the only person in my high school to be awarded a national 5-star certificate from the Amateur Athletics Association. I remember having a conversation with the athletics teacher's 'side kick', or 'little helper' as I sometimes called him, among other more significant derogatory phrases. He asked me why am I interested in knowing what is required for the maximum 5-star award, as he said I wouldn't be able to achieve it. He said I would get a 3-star award at best. At the time I thought his response was what was to be expected, from someone who owns and drives an MG Metro.

I managed to get the 5-star award without really trying hard for it, and still without knowing what was required. I just did the best I could do, and did it without any significant training. 100m; 200m; long jump; triple jump; high jump; discus; shot put and javelin.

As for team sports, basketball and Rugby (outside centre or occasionally on the wing). I had a dislike for football (soccer). Still do, as to me it seemed to be full of prima donna's.

I remember seeing my athletics teacher's 'little helper' after I left High School. He was still driving a red MG Metro. I waved at him as I was overtaking him, along with some other hand gestures. There was no love lost.

Males seems to get a handle on Maths and sciences much more so than females ..at least back in my day anyway...

When my daughter was at school from 1980 to 1998.. she was a real swot.. she excelled in most of her subjects including Maths, but she didn't find Maths particularly easy.. However her Maths teacher who had a brilliant mind saw the potential in her and coached her .

This was a teacher that all the students were terrified of..and who was not averse to hanging a child out of a second floor window by their legs if they hadn't produced their required homework...

My daughter went onto achieve an A + Grade in Maths ..not sure if it was because she was terrified of being hung by her ankles .. because I know she couldn't bear her Maths teacher.

well tbf IT wasn't a Thing when we were at school...
That's interesting you say that @hollydolly. I remember in math class (7th or 8th grade) learning how to do BASIC programming. We had to program instructions for our math calculations. That was my first IT instruction. It was fun! We're talking about 1969 or so.
