What was your first car?

'41 Chevy two door classic coupe. Dad wouldn't let me torch the springs in the rear to lower it so I put two gunny sacks full of sand in the trunk.

'73 Datsun station wagon. Similar to this one. It was ugly as sin and it didn't have much power but I hope that everyone had as much fun with their first car as I did with that one.

My first street legal car was a '64 Chevy Biscayne. We always had what we called "field cars" growing up. Cheap cars us kids would race around a makeshift track in a field. The one that sticks out most clearly to me was a ,57 or'58 Ford Station Wagon. Wonderful way to learn to drive.

My first car was a 1956 Ford Fairlane. All my friends and I were into drag racing, so I found a 1960 Lincoln 430 engine, and we rebuilt it with a destroker kit, Isky cam, and Edelbrock manifold with dual 4 barrels, etc., and coupled that to a BW 4 speed trans, and a Ford PU rear end with a 3.83 RER. What a Hoot! It was still tame enough to drive on the streets, and a competitive B Gasser at the drag strip. I didn't get much life out of the rear tires. Then, I joined the USAF, and sold it to one of the old friends.....still kind of miss that old beast.

A '55 Dodge station wagon with a police interceptor engine that my Dad bought for $100 from a neighbor. It drank the gas, but then gas was only 25 cents a gallon or so. It was my car for my senior year in high school. It wasn't stylish but it was FAST! And the boys loved to look under the hood.

My first NEW car was a '73 Ford Pinto, the "bomb on wheels". It actually was a delightful car to drive and gave me good service for three years until we traded it in on a 1976 AMC Matador Station Wagon, the "lemon on wheels".

My first car was a 1963 Dodge Lancer. My Dad bought it for me second hand for my birthday so I had some way of getting to nursing school. I remember it had buttons you pushed instead of a gear shift and after awhile they would jam but I loved that car and washed it every time I took it out. The first car I bought myself was a Ford Pinto and it was a real lemon. car (800x600).jpg

Mine was a 74 Gran Torino Sport, same model as the Starsky & Hutch car. It had a 351 Windsor engine that had some decent power, bucket seats, 8-track player with a 100 watt equalizer and Jensen Tri-Axial speakers. It looked identical to the one in the pic below except the wheels were a bit different on mine. I loved that car!

The first car I drove was my mothers' 66 mustang...I loved that car. It was baby blue.
The first one I owned was a volvo. I purchased it with the child support money that was put in a bank account for me when I turned 18. My step dad helped me pick it out and I can't tell you how much trouble I had with that car....unbelievable...ended up selling the seats out of it for about 50 bucks.

Mine was a 60-ish Corvair. The worst car I ever owned, but I bought it with my own money ($100) I can't tell you how many times my brother & my boyfriend (now husband ) rescued me when the fan belt would fly off. It was a piece of crap...., but that money was burning a hole in my pocket . I had to spend it .
